Effective Saturday, October 4th, 2014 (october 5th 00z), the Birmingham, al, National Weather Service office will resume seasonal taf (terminal Aerodrome forecast) service for the Talladega Municipal Airport (kasn) in Talladega, al in support of the biannual National association of stock car auto racing (nascar) races at the Talladega superspeedway. Routine and updated taf forecasts will be issued at least 4 times daily for this Airport, 24 hours a day for 2 weeks leading up to and 3 days after the races.

The two major race events are held in may and October. These general dates are subject to change by nascar. For this year's fall event, taf service will resume on the evening of October 4th and conclude on October 22nd (october 23rd 00z, barring race delays).

These events bring over 200,000 people to the superspeedway for each race for several days in advance. Many of the attendees fly by private or charter planes into the Talladega Municipal Airport.
