... Cool and showery weather for Memorial Day into next week...

A disturbance moving through northern California on Memorial Day will
deepen a low pressure system presently over the Pacific northwest.
This will bring cool and unsettled weather to the interior of
northern California for the Memorial Day Holiday. A chance of
showers across the area continues through the middle of next week
and possibly beyond as additional disturbances move through.

Daytime high temperatures will be around 10 degrees below normal
on Memorial Day then gradually warm through the week. Highs are
expected to remain below normal through the week.

Hikers... backpackers and other outdoor enthusiasts are advised to
be prepared for the much cooler and more unsettled weather for
early next week. Conditions may be quite wet at times...
especially in the northern Sierra Nevada. Snow levels will remain
high but some accumulation is likely across the higher peaks.

... Fast flowing cold water expected for Memorial Day weekend...

Temperatures are expected to be around 80 degrees in the valley and
upper 60s to mid 70s in the foothills this weekend and cooling
around 10 degrees on Memorial Day. There is also a chance of showers
on Memorial Day.

Rivers and lakes and the water temperatures are cold and dangerous.
Sierra and foothill water temperatures are currently in the 50's and
valley water temperatures are in the mid 50s to mid 60s.

Exposure to water of this temperature is dangerous. Even experienced
swimmers can lose muscle control very quickly and fast flowing water
will make Rescue difficult. People planning activities such as
rafting... swimming or paddling should always wear life jackets or
vests. Children in particular should always wear a life Vest if they
are even near the Waters Edge.
