...July 2014 ended as the driest July on record for North Platte and the 9th driest for Valentine...

After seeing the wettest June on record for Valentine and the second wettest June on record for North Platte...a pattern shift resulted in little widespread rainfall. Only 0.14 inches fell at North Platte...driest on record...and 0.58 inches fell at Valentine...9th driest on record. Locally some heavy rainfall did occur...however both North Platte and Valentine were missed. Temperatures through the month were generally below normal...however there was a week of very warm conditions from July 20th to July 25th...which included the first triple digit reports of the year.

For North Platte...the average daily mean temperature for July was 71.8 degrees...which was 2.5 degrees below the normal of 74.3 degrees. The average daily high temperature was 86.1 degrees which was 2.1 degrees below the normal of 88.2 degrees. The average daily low temperature for the month was 57.6 degrees which was 2.8 degrees below the normal of 60.4 degrees. The average daily low for July ranks as the 7th coolest on record. Two daily temperature records were set for the month of July in North Platte. On July 15 the low was 44 degrees...breaking the 1973 record of 48 degrees. On July 17...the thermometer dropped to 48 degrees...which tied with 1900.

For Valentine...the average daily mean temperature for July was 71.6 degrees...which was 2.9 degrees below the normal of 85.9 degrees. The average daily high temperature was 85.9 degrees...which was 2.8 degrees below the normal of 88.7 degrees. The average daily minimum temperature was 57.4 degrees...which was 3.0 degrees below the normal of 60.4 degrees. No temperature records were set during the month of July.

At Lee Bird Field in North Platte...precipitation for July only totaled 0.14 inches...which was 2.93 inches below the normal of 3.07 inches. July 2014 will go down as the driest July on record. No daily precipitation records were set this month.

At Miller Field in Valentine...precipitation for July totaled 0.58 inches which was 2.63 inches below the normal of 3.21 inches. July 2014 will go down as the 9th driest July on record for Valentine. No daily precipitation records were set during July.
