A record high temperature of 89 degrees was set at Goodland Kansas today. This breaks the old record of 88 degrees set in 1915.

A record high temperature of 89 degrees was tied at Hill City Kansas today. This ties the old record of 89 degrees set in 1921.

A record high temperature of 86 degrees was set at Burlington Colorado today. This breaks the old record of 84 degrees set in 1952.

A record high temperature of 89 degrees was set at McCook Nebraska today. This breaks the old record of 88 degrees set in 1927.

An unofficial record high temperature of 90 degrees was set at Colby Kansas today. This breaks the old record of 87 degrees set in 2003. This reading is from an unofficial weather station. Official data are reported by National Weather Service cooperative observers at the end of the month.

...On this date in weather history...

In 1997, snowfall of 10 to 24 inches accompanied by 50 to 60 mph winds produced widespread blizzard conditions in the tri state area with near zero visibility and wind chills to 20 degrees below zero. It was the largest one day snowfall on record at the Goodland National Weather Service office with 19.3 inches. An estimated 6200 head of cattle were killed. The air National guard air lifted Hay to surviving range cattle after the storm. Up to 25 percent of the remaining fall crops were damaged by the snow and wind. Roads were closed and motorists stranded. At least one person suffered severe frostbite and mild hypothermia after becoming stranded for over 12 hours when his snowmobile quit. Total property damage from the storm was estimated to be 5 million dollars.
