Regarding your reference to that NY Times article about how "hurricane proof" homes are popping up everywhere...I live in South Florida (Palm Beach County) - the hurricane capital of the U.S. And I can tell you for a fact that there are ZERO builders offering such homes. Unless you go to an individual builder (who may or may not have a reputation and offer you a vaild warranty), you can't get such a home down here. Why? Because even after Frances, Jeanne, and Wilma in just 2 seasons, people still don't care about spending extra $$$ to "hurricane proof" their new homes.....granite countertops, oak cabinets, crown moulding, 24-inch Saturnia Marble tiles - that's what they want! If you or anyone can direct me to a reputable builder in Palm Beach County who will construct a "hurricane proof" home for me, then please let me know. Otherwise, please don't make statements and claims like these. Until we get another Andrew right through Palm Beach County - to wipe out everything and change peoples' minds for good - "hurricane proof" homes are not available at every corner drugstore down here!
