Hmmm, looks like a small area of high pressure develops off of New England waters during Tuesday setting up an east to northeast wind off the Atlantic keeping maximum temperatures in the mid-upper 80's with slightly lower dew points than once thought as far west as the Delaware Valley and perhaps even into the Susquehanna Valley. Interesting to see exactly where this Atlantic influence sets up inland. The northwest mountains of Pennsylvania could well be warmer than Philadelphia Tuesday. Heat advisories have been lifted for the Mount Holly CWA but remain for most of the Sterling CWA.

Wow, Tahoe California ski resort is remaining open through at least July 4th due to the massive amounts of snow left on the mountain!

A couple 100F east coast readings today just north of Morehead City NC and just southeast of Columbia SC. Also some spotty 95F plus in Pennsylvania's LSV and MSV. Heat index values 100F - 105F in the Washington DC to Richmond VA region.

The backdoor front / New England high pressure systems forecasted cooling influence was overdone in the Delaware Valley today. I still managed 92F as dew points remained moderate in the mid-upper 60's. Because we are not yet acclimated to the heat and Wednesday will be the 3rd straight 90F plus day across much of the area with lows only in the 70's again, an excessive heat warning is in effect for the Mount Holly metro regions through Wednesday evening as heat index values are expected to reach between 95F - 99F Wednesday afternoon. Code Orange unhealthy air quality alert remains through the period.

Tomorrow's SPC statement is giving us an eventful afternoon here in CT:

DEEP LAYER WESTERLY FLOW AND SHEAR WILL BE STRONGEST NEAR THE COLD FRONT AS IT ADVANCES ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA AND NEW YORK INTO NEW ENGLAND DURING THE DAYTIME HOURS...BUT STRONGEST DESTABILIZATION PROBABLY WILL OCCUR WITHIN THE PRE-FRONTAL LEE SURFACE TROUGH FROM VIRGINIA INTO NORTHERN MID ATLANTIC COASTAL AREAS AND SOUTHERN NEWENGLAND. CONDITIONS NEAR THESE SURFACE FEATURES MAY BECOME THE FOCUS FOR SCATTERED STRONG/SEVERE STORM DEVELOPMENT CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND LARGE HAIL WEDNESDAY

An incredible 8000 j/kg of CAPE is right over me now. Thank goodness for a cap. That's about the max extent of instability you will see anywhere in the country...let alone in PA.

From the State College AFD...
MID LEVEL CAP HAS TRIUMPHED OVER RUC ANALYZED 7000J OF CAPE. WE
DON`T SEE THAT KIND OF INSTABILITY AROUND HERE THAT OFTEN...BUT
WITH 700 TEMPS AROUND 10C...THE CU JUST HAD NO FUTURE AND COULDN`T
GROW UP TO BE CB`S.

Hi Rasberry Patch! Sorry for taking so long to respond to your nice comment a couple days ago.

I wish I could post more frequently, but unfortunately I can only get dial-up out here in the country (Madison Co. VA) which means I often get kicked off line...

I do want to thank all of you - especially blizzard - for your insightful analyses, and early warning of bad weather: you've saved my husband and I lot of grief over the past couple of years!

And speaking of bad weather... maybe I should take my afternoon nap sooner rather than later!

Tornado Watch until 8pm for the east coast extending from southern Maine to southeastern Pennsylvania.

Temps in the low 90's and dew points in the low-mid 70's creating heat index values topping 100F here.

Lots and lots of moisture for these storms to work with which are now beginning to pop up all over the place as of 2:00 pm!

I know what you mean about dial-up. I remember having it about 6 years ago in a big community in Harrisburg. They used to say I was too far from the pole to get DSL and I didn't want to go to comcast....no way. Having Directv that would be like stepping down to a chuck steak from a filet.

Hopefully, you will get something better soon. It's just not fun loading a page with dial-up.

Keep your weather radio handy as well.

the last storm that blew through kind of dried up and moved just north of me. some light rain - measured 0.01"

It's insane! I have a friend in Springfield who lives less than a mile from where a bus was tossed.

I heard that a Dad was searching for his 4 children, but found that they had run elsewhere to take cover and they're fine. Could that be the same report, or is it another you speak of?

Its GTOSnow work won't let me sign in with that name for some reason. A guy I drag race with pretty much lost his house, the winds took the garage right off the foundation. Luckily he was accross town at his fathers house with his daughter. The place where I am having my wedding this coming February was hit pretty hard as well, it is an old historic inn and they think that one of the building is a loss. Never seen anything like this up here!

Hi Lt I'm actually back at home, but thank you for the concern. One of the tornadoes started over the exit from I-91 which is the route i take to school. Most of the damage is downtown, however high winds threw down trees everywhere for what I've heard.

A friend of mine had one pass by near his house (he lives about 15 mins or so from springfield), his roof was torn up a bit and trees down everywhere. Luckily it wasn't a direct hit, but they had hail as well.

I found debris from the tornado in my driveway yesterday! There were a few water bottles in the driveway, and some building insulation on top of my car!!
