Even Blizz himself spoke of the warming climate in one of his blog posts. I believe it was the Earth Day one. He just doesn't believe it's human induced. Don't want to get into this subject though so I'll no longer mention it. Just posting interesting data. Whether it's extreme heat, extreme cold, pleasant temperatures, thunderstorms, snow, doesn't matter...
Tarrytown is a cool unique looking town.
I appreciate you posting the data. It is really nice to see what is going on up and down the east coast and all around. I wasn't trying to get into a climate change discussion. I was just mentioning that I thought some of the extreme highs had to do with all the pavement in the area.
I wonder if pavement can increase the heatwave to higher numbers? if you have 90F air, can pavement increase that air as it moves along
Btw - when are you moving? You excited coming to tornado alley of PA? hahahaha
I too was quite impressed as is the tree in my neighbor's yard, split by a lightning strike.
Yeah I realize you weren't trying to go into that discussion. I want to keep it off this blog and save it for other blogs if we want.
If you mean pavement in cities increasing the high temperatures and then spreading out to rural / country areas, I really don't know the extent of that. I do know that if you walk from pavement into an open field, the temperature will fall. I know you know this, but that's why they require the official standardized thermometer to be at least 100 ft from any pavement. I love the microclimate discussion...
I am excited actually! I'm moving to Marietta permanantly tomorrow / Saturday. I told my wife it's the tornado alley of PA and she's a little nervous about that lol. I told her it's like Iowa.
Yeah, I know what you're talking about as well. It's all good. The microclimate is quite interesting. Have a good one!
Good luck with your move. You are right on the water almost huh. and very very close to Cool Creek Golf course. I have played there a couple of times. Rt. 30 has some nice restaurants. The Accomac was a really nice place 9 years ago. I haven't been back since. and there is Alfred's Victorian in Middletown. Just a couple I have tried. East York looks like there are many chain restaurants.
We have been moving stuff in almost every weekend since May 1st so the move has gone nice and smooth without completely breaking us down. My regular job ended yesterday so I'm going out permanantly Saturday but the wife is staying back here and visiting on weekends until she finds a suitable job out that way, no idea how long that's gonna take.
Lots of restaurants in York. We usually either drive to York or Mount Joy for groceries / supplies and always York when going out to eat. About 20 minutes to York.
You can really smell the farms coming from the Mount Joy area under a north wind. Something we are certainly not used to around here! We find it kind of neat though being Megalopolis folk lol.
So in order it goes the river, the train tracks, Front St, then our street which is Market St and we're 3 buldings from "The Square" in the center of town. So we're 1 block from the tracks which run along the Susquehanna. We have this great view from our apartment across the river to this huge mansion which sits atop a 550 foot hill (700 ft elevation) and we have no idea what it is. We took a drive across and up those hills to find out what it was but it's like a mile long, twisty, private uphill drive and couldn't check it out. I went on Google Earth and zoomed to the top and they have an incredible 360 degree view from up there. I'm sure they can see Harrisburg - Blue Mountain - York and Lancaster no problem and maybe even Maryland. Looks like the White House or something.
Yo Blizz, quite the ladies man on FB huh?
Yeah it was mainly an Atlantic coastal heat wave from NYC south wasn't it...
Blizz - I don't mind missing out on the 100's. 90's works for me. hahahahaha
Anyways We lost power for over 3 hours thursday night from the big line of storms that came through.
The storm woke me around 345am and I looked on my phone at the radar and watched that big glob. I also use my phone to get weather warnings. With the strong lightning I would have thought there would have been a warning, but there wasn't except flood advisory.
I got 1.25". I looked on Cocorahs and I was surprised there weren't more 1 and 2 inch rainfall amounts, unless some people haven't sent in their data.
We're getting some sun this morning which is going to destabilize things quickly.
The 12z HRRR shows a line developing in the mid afternoon and coming through the LSV.
A few strong storms...possibly supercells....may develop out ahead of this line. Several models have mean EHIs over 1 this afternoon and moderate shear. You would think the SPC would have us under a 2% tornado threat but they don't.
Some slow moving popcorn storms out there.
Philly Int'l tied with last year with 7 90F plus to date as of Friday.
Welcome to the Lower Susquehanna Valley (PA tornado alley, lol)!
A refreshing air mass has come into Western PA. Not so juicy. Have opened the windows and am expecting a comfortable couple of days in the 70s.
You're under a tornado warning now! stay safe...
It was so great. Like a magnet keeping the rain away for most of the day. Some rain now, but that is ok. They have a big tent for everyone to still have fun. They were worried when the tornado warning was issued, but technology is great these days. Having my phone with radar I could see where everything was and how it was moving. Also, getting the warnings sent to my phone and where the rotation was located helped as well.
hahaha... my comment 423 sure is fitting this evening
The tornado really hit a populated area if this is the case...
Thanks for the introduction to the LSV Blizz...
Well that was interesting. Torrential rains of a couple inches in 45 minutes I'm sure, some gusty winds, a ton of loud crashing lighting, surprisingly no hail here. It was a little freaky!
Back to dispensing the last of the moving boxes...
I was worried when I heard this warning...I'm taking it you didn't have any significant damage near you. That's good.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STATE COLLEGE PA HAS ISSUED A
* TORNADO WARNING FOR...
WEST CENTRAL LANCASTER COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA...
CENTRAL YORK COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA...
* THE TORNADO WILL BE NEAR...
MAYTOWN AND HALLAM AROUND 805 PM EDT...
MAYTOWN AROUND 810 PM EDT...
MARIETTA AROUND 815 PM EDT...
WRIGHTSVILLE AROUND 820 PM EDT...
COLUMBIA AROUND 825 PM EDT...
COLUMBIA AROUND 830 PM EDT...
I'll tell ya the sky got pretty scary looking around 8:05, black clouds swirling every which way, then it just absolutely unloaded at 8:10 and was at its heaviest from then till about 8:30. I honestly haven't looked around for any damage but I'd imagine there's some branches down etc. I heard a barn was blown onto a roadway here in Lancaster County.
Storms keep rebuilding and training here. Pouring outside as I speak.
There's an enormous amount of loud lightning with these storms.
pretty much has stopped. my lawn was a bit stressed from not much rain the past couple of weeks. I guess it will come back nicely this week as well as the weeds.
Amazing this area for tornados. This year has been especially bad. I wonder how many tornado warnings for this area so far? you would think we lived in the plains.

Salunga, Lancaster County.
Thunderstorm wind damage, reported by 911 call center.
Barn blown onto roadway
No idea how much rain fell as there are no PWS stations close enough that measure precipitation. There's one in Mountville that hasn't reported since before yesterday's storms.
Yep! They are intensifying pretty quick! Thunder here already! The mountain to my north blocks my view of these storms completely though until the very last minute.
Looks really nasty!!! 71dbz with large hail core, although conditions for hail are not overly impressive today.
Looks like another line coming our way. I just got a text message saying the severe thunderstorm was cancelled for perry county and NW Lebanon. Looking at the radar i see reds and pinks coming my way. Huh
Just 0.45" of rain here as the worst part of the storm remained about 5 miles to my southwest (near New Buffalo/Halifax).
I noticed that there was very little lightning as well. That's usually a sign of the storm weakening.
