Lots of activity in the tropics. Does that mean we won't get cooler temps after all at the end of next week?
It was similar up here, anduril. Small pop up storms that don't give much notice and don't help many people. Bleah.
Our area isn't in a bubble, but we still got a bust today. Hoping for some good stuff this weekend, but hoping it either comes early or holds off on Sunday. Presently it looks like I'll be seeing 95F plus thunderstorms during my friend Peter's memorial service. Heh.
*NOTE: The church does not have air conditioning.
It has been an agonizing scenario played out many times here this summer and we remain dry. Had some nice cooling outflow from the system but that was all.
It would appear Sunday late could prove interesting..but alas anything I get at the coast could come in the overnight hours. Having to be up at 5am to get to work means I wouldn't be watching the light show move in.
I think anything severe particularly on a more widespread level will remain inland. Those of us in coastal regions have a significantly lower chance of damaging weather this go around.
Heat Advisories for the Buffalo area today. Don't remember the last time I saw that.
Air quality remains very poor. Those with breathing difficulties should not take the late morning or afternoon/evening jogs. If you haven't done so already - just don't. Might as well be breathing underwater in this stuff.
Yet it is obvious the Police Station does!
I find this humorous. It would seem they are in an old bank with numerous air conditioning units humming away. They couldn't hear the outside commotion. A nearby resident had to call 911 to alert them what was occurring outside in their own parking lot.
I recall being up in northern VT, Westford to be exact, during the summer of 2005. No air conditioning is the norm throughout the area. Upper 90s and drenching humidity on a nearly daily basis wasn't very comfortable. At least the home I was welcomed into had a nice deep basement that hovered at 55 throughout the event. Luckily it was a finished basement.
I'm two towns from Westford, and today it's "93F, feels like 97F", so I hear you! We don't have A/C here at the house, so we tend things the old southern way: we keep the house closed up in the hottest part of the day, with fans on. Then we open it up at night. Works pretty well.
Yeah, that story does have an amusing side to it. At least no one was hurt. But it sure is a lot of waste.
Currently: "95F, feels like 98F"
Heh.
You can see the majority of the energy of this system streaming NE'ward into Canada from PA/OH on satellite loops.
Watch last night's MCS as it heads NE, turns East as it intensified, and is now being torn apart and elongated as it's energy is whisked away to the NE into Canada.
What that means downstream would be less severe weather of widespread nature. It would appear there is even more lessening of severe possibilities than there was earlier. I would say any damaging cells look to be kept in western NY state now....whereas of last night it appeared right to the PA/NJ and NY/MA borders could have seen widespread severe weather.
It would just seem to me the chances have steadily lessened over the past 36 hours as the event has neared and I feel that will continue to be the case.
There is a lot of wind energy today so any cells that do develop could carry isolated wind damage potential. So if you see a solid cell of 55dbz+ maintaining itself and aligning with your area you should prepare for the chance of 40mph+ winds.
At this point I'm hoping for just the rain...and even moreso a wind shift. Our air quality is just awful here and it's difficult to breathe....and has now contributed to headaches for everyone.
Where did they go? 1215 hrs
Lobster outing- that's one where the cooks are lobster red after cooking and clean up. No rain just clear skies.
Today's earlier clouds were just reflective of the overwhelming surface humidity we've had.
Would now appear after 8pm could be good timing for the line.
The after midnight forecast would now prove erroneous from this morning... as would the forecast temps of 90 as I hit 97! Yuck!!!!
Right now a visual inspection shows some neat clouds but generally very stable looking atmosphere.
The line has the look of one that brings it's own with it.
We shall see who wins the battle in ~4 hours.
Pray for rain and some good cleansing wind. This air is pretty gross...and honestly a health hazard.
We'll see what it is when it gets here but we've done this dance before and it usually ends up in some weak broken convection --- but occasionally it hits a cycle just right and either pulses back up on our coastal doorstep - or the outflow boundary itself sometimes decides to fire strong.
But well...those are the more rare occurrences. We'll see what happens as it progresses.
Severe TStorm warning is uncalled for (again).
Still, was a pretty storm rolling in for certain. Nice cloud formations.
The rain is quite welcome. The cleaner air moreso.
Hmmm I have not noticed any problems or changes. I would contact some sort of help ticker to let them know you are a paying member and seeing ads. That feature has not changed so there must be some sort of problem on somebody's end.
At the beach it was very breezy over the weekend. Not favorable for fishing in the bay. It just made it too choppy and you can't get a good drift, especially in a pontoon boat.
Still expecting hot weather the next couple of weeks?
As for the website...the only problems I am having is on occasion the website locks up.

Around 11pm we got what we were sorely missing all these months. It was nice to see and hear.
On the train platform this morning folks were talking about something rolling through around 3am or so. I was sound asleep so I don't know.
Well, have a good evening all.
Busy week for me.
A slow moving low and frontal boundary appear to be the culprits along with some tropical moisture being injected from old 91L.
Some 2.5" five day totals are being modeled. Where the focus on seems to change run to run so I wouldn't put any faith in exact location right now.
Incidentally here in NJ we're modeled quite low in the .5 to 1.5" range depending on the run --- but our local products have strong wording for heavy rains.
So stay tuned.
I think I have heard of that website, but have not used it before. Tropics seem to have been pretty quiet this year, although it is early. And some of the long term global runs show increasing activity from a few African waves.
Any thoughts on the next day or so of weather from the strong front coming through the area? Do you think it will clear out for the weekend?
:-)
Hey, it's raining!! Cool!
(I'll enjoy it until the humidity rises up like a sea serpent...which it is slated to do.)
No rain here yet today. Wishing and hoping for tonight/tomorrow.
We're considering going to either Lake George, NY or Killington, VT at the end of January. Does anyone know what the snow situation might be at either of these locales? After last year, it's really hard to feel confident of any snow anywhere. Thanks!

As soon as I type this it has started to rain and I lost power for a few seconds. I don't expect much though
edit...0.60" and still coming down cats and dogs
My rainfall with still light rain is 0.76" in about 20 mins
Hi PhillySnow!
Killington makes snow if there isn't enough, so you'd be able to ski. Last year was rough on the ski areas, so let's hope this year will be better.
Whoo hoo! Congratulations!!
So, what did you do differently today?
Any rain dancing?
Now looking into PA looks like one very wide column of heavy rain is moving eastward. So it is finally on it's way.
This morning's skies are very stable looking - with the exception of these very impressive and rare - very narrow and very tall cumulus structures popping up.
Very cool....
You can see the dark feature in the left third of the sky reaching upwards.
