Thanks for a fresh blog, Blizz.

Lots of activity in the tropics. Does that mean we won't get cooler temps after all at the end of next week?

Nice little storm built up to the South and East of harrisburg and then utterly fizzled out within the span of 30mins. Very strange

It was similar up here, anduril. Small pop up storms that don't give much notice and don't help many people. Bleah.

It just builds with my bubble theory. This area has a bubble of death for storms. No science will keep me from my bubble theory

Our area isn't in a bubble, but we still got a bust today. Hoping for some good stuff this weekend, but hoping it either comes early or holds off on Sunday. Presently it looks like I'll be seeing 95F plus thunderstorms during my friend Peter's memorial service. Heh.

*NOTE: The church does not have air conditioning.

Once again slow moving heavy rain producers popped up just to my south along and south of the county line...and meandered within themselves then rained out.

It has been an agonizing scenario played out many times here this summer and we remain dry. Had some nice cooling outflow from the system but that was all.

It would appear Sunday late could prove interesting..but alas anything I get at the coast could come in the overnight hours. Having to be up at 5am to get to work means I wouldn't be watching the light show move in.

I think anything severe particularly on a more widespread level will remain inland. Those of us in coastal regions have a significantly lower chance of damaging weather this go around.

Heat Advisories for the Buffalo area today. Don't remember the last time I saw that.

Air quality remains very poor. Those with breathing difficulties should not take the late morning or afternoon/evening jogs. If you haven't done so already - just don't. Might as well be breathing underwater in this stuff.

Yet it is obvious the Police Station does!

I find this humorous. It would seem they are in an old bank with numerous air conditioning units humming away. They couldn't hear the outside commotion. A nearby resident had to call 911 to alert them what was occurring outside in their own parking lot.

I recall being up in northern VT, Westford to be exact, during the summer of 2005. No air conditioning is the norm throughout the area. Upper 90s and drenching humidity on a nearly daily basis wasn't very comfortable. At least the home I was welcomed into had a nice deep basement that hovered at 55 throughout the event. Luckily it was a finished basement.

I'm two towns from Westford, and today it's "93F, feels like 97F", so I hear you! We don't have A/C here at the house, so we tend things the old southern way: we keep the house closed up in the hottest part of the day, with fans on. Then we open it up at night. Works pretty well.

Yeah, that story does have an amusing side to it. At least no one was hurt. But it sure is a lot of waste.

Awesome past couple of days. Took a boat across the housatonic Friday night to stay at a friend's yurt. A little bit too warm for camping comfort but, despite a full moon, managed to catch some BRIGHT meteors, even though the Perseids don't peak until next week. More campfire action tonight, then tomorrow we are heading up to FDR state park at Yorktown heights for a round of disc golf before the weather moves in. Pool is up to 87 again. Too warm for day swimming.

Morning folks. Awaiting the late evening-early overnight hours thunderstorms here in coastal NJ.

You can see the majority of the energy of this system streaming NE'ward into Canada from PA/OH on satellite loops.

Watch last night's MCS as it heads NE, turns East as it intensified, and is now being torn apart and elongated as it's energy is whisked away to the NE into Canada.

What that means downstream would be less severe weather of widespread nature. It would appear there is even more lessening of severe possibilities than there was earlier. I would say any damaging cells look to be kept in western NY state now....whereas of last night it appeared right to the PA/NJ and NY/MA borders could have seen widespread severe weather.

It would just seem to me the chances have steadily lessened over the past 36 hours as the event has neared and I feel that will continue to be the case.

There is a lot of wind energy today so any cells that do develop could carry isolated wind damage potential. So if you see a solid cell of 55dbz+ maintaining itself and aligning with your area you should prepare for the chance of 40mph+ winds.

At this point I'm hoping for just the rain...and even moreso a wind shift. Our air quality is just awful here and it's difficult to breathe....and has now contributed to headaches for everyone.

Aug 4: rapidly building clouds to our south. This does not bode well for the charity golf outing. 1015 hrs

Where did they go? 1215 hrs

Lobster outing- that's one where the cooks are lobster red after cooking and clean up. No rain just clear skies.

Lots of wind last night and today ahead of a line of storms that may split and pass N and S of me. But we need to drive through them to a funeral taking place just as the storms will likely be raging. Wild!

Line in Eastern PA looks promising, Goofy.
Today's earlier clouds were just reflective of the overwhelming surface humidity we've had.

Would now appear after 8pm could be good timing for the line.

The after midnight forecast would now prove erroneous from this morning... as would the forecast temps of 90 as I hit 97! Yuck!!!!

Right now a visual inspection shows some neat clouds but generally very stable looking atmosphere.

The line has the look of one that brings it's own with it.

We shall see who wins the battle in ~4 hours.

Pray for rain and some good cleansing wind. This air is pretty gross...and honestly a health hazard.

Yeah, looks like I'll be getting that line here in Stamford CT. around 9-10pm, if it holds together. I think it might, there are clear skies before the line so the sun should keep the atmospher relatively warm/hot and humid, right up to the shower line.

22. Pcroton 22:28 GMT le 05 août 2012
Hmmm..as the line enters NJ it would appear a strong outflow boundary has rocketed ahead of the now weakening line.

We'll see what it is when it gets here but we've done this dance before and it usually ends up in some weak broken convection --- but occasionally it hits a cycle just right and either pulses back up on our coastal doorstep - or the outflow boundary itself sometimes decides to fire strong.

But well...those are the more rare occurrences. We'll see what happens as it progresses.

Well...nice shelf moved in. Black as can be. Winds to about 30-35 max. Moderate to briefly heavy rain. Very limited thunder/lightning.

Severe TStorm warning is uncalled for (again).

Still, was a pretty storm rolling in for certain. Nice cloud formations.

The rain is quite welcome. The cleaner air moreso.

Zach I wondered if you have noticed any changes since the change in ownership. I will say that I was fearful of this merger/buyout as soon as I heard about it....Been a WU paid member since 2001! Stopped watching TWC when it turned from weather to an entertainment channel.......I wondered how long before I noticed something 'not right' with our site...well, it has happened. Ads are everywhere, and I pay so I do not have to see them but that is over and.... Seems every time I try to check out WU tropical pages I have 'threats' being blocked by AVG (my security program). Granted they appear to be tracking bugs but still....really??? What will be next? What are they tracking to see? We are not shopping here!! How do we tell them..It is all about the weather....please do not screw it up!!

Hmmm I have not noticed any problems or changes. I would contact some sort of help ticker to let them know you are a paying member and seeing ads. That feature has not changed so there must be some sort of problem on somebody's end.

I was away for the weekend. My multi-day precipitation was 1.29". We have been getting some rain lately, Blizz. I believe I am close or over 5" for the past 30 days. And since May over 14". I did have a few things blown about. A high wind gust of 29mph.
At the beach it was very breezy over the weekend. Not favorable for fishing in the bay. It just made it too choppy and you can't get a good drift, especially in a pontoon boat.

Still expecting hot weather the next couple of weeks?

As for the website...the only problems I am having is on occasion the website locks up.

Around 11pm we got what we were sorely missing all these months. It was nice to see and hear.

Well, have a good evening all.

It would seem quite the rain event is on tap for late Thursday into late Saturday for the region. Some good totals being modeled.

A slow moving low and frontal boundary appear to be the culprits along with some tropical moisture being injected from old 91L.

Some 2.5" five day totals are being modeled. Where the focus on seems to change run to run so I wouldn't put any faith in exact location right now.

Incidentally here in NJ we're modeled quite low in the .5 to 1.5" range depending on the run --- but our local products have strong wording for heavy rains.

So stay tuned.

I think I have heard of that website, but have not used it before. Tropics seem to have been pretty quiet this year, although it is early. And some of the long term global runs show increasing activity from a few African waves.

Hi everyone! Just got back from Florida, where it is unbelievably hot. I like dry heat, but it was totally oppressive except very late at night and early morning. Won't go there again in summer!(Duh)

No rain here yet today. Wishing and hoping for tonight/tomorrow.

We're considering going to either Lake George, NY or Killington, VT at the end of January. Does anyone know what the snow situation might be at either of these locales? After last year, it's really hard to feel confident of any snow anywhere. Thanks!

So last four days, I have watched the clouds billow into the heights. They get dark bottoms. Poof gone. Which means that our soil is drying off. Each night the area between the fall line and the sea, give off enough moisture to the air to suggest fog or cloud echoes. Think the next pass by the front in western PA. , will dry out before it hits the shore. 999 P will eat his hat and say See I knew it. And I will reply. Yep amazing. Kind of like the weather version of Casey Stengle and The Mick at the hearings to grant baseball exemption from the antitrust provisions. Eh. This has been a great week at the Shore.

a strong thunderstorm has moved up out of Maryland and is just to my South. The lightning and thunder is a good show. No rain for me, at least not yet. It kind of faded as it moved North, but then reformed just over my house with dark reds.

As soon as I type this it has started to rain and I lost power for a few seconds. I don't expect much though

Wow, was I wrong. The rain and wind is amazing. The wind was gusting in the 20's and so far almost 0.50" of rain in less than 15 mins. Looking at the radar I am just on the edge of the storm. The lightning and thunder are amazing as well.

edit...0.60" and still coming down cats and dogs

Hi PhillySnow!

Killington makes snow if there isn't enough, so you'd be able to ski. Last year was rough on the ski areas, so let's hope this year will be better.

Missed out last evening on some very large and heavy downpours. Only got some black skies out of it then it all dried up quick on radar.

Now looking into PA looks like one very wide column of heavy rain is moving eastward. So it is finally on it's way.

This morning's skies are very stable looking - with the exception of these very impressive and rare - very narrow and very tall cumulus structures popping up.

Very cool....

You can see the dark feature in the left third of the sky reaching upwards.
