Dry Slot

It's only June, but already we have a blob to watch. Forecasts for the coming hurricane season are bullish, at least on the meteorological side. If you live along the Atlantic coast, or if you work for an insurance company, you may be thinking bear.

Most years I put up this tropical blog in August, when the hurricane season swings into high gear. This year I'm going to start early, mainly because I'm being lazy. There's too much going on in the real world for me to keep the rhythym going with my WU blog. Maybe things will settle down after a while, and I'll have excess CPU cycles for time sharing again. For now my plan is to sit back and watch the maps along with the rest of you. The majority of this page was cadged from last summer's tropical weather blog. I'll keep a weather eye peeled for newer information sources. Let me know if your favorite cool graphic isn't here, or if you find broken links etc.

These maps and charts are useful for tracking tropical storms and for evaluating your risk. You can click each image to visit the web site where the information originates.

Yesterday (Friday) I drove my mother-in-law to an appointment with her masseuse. MIL can still drive, but age is creeping up on her. She faces increasingly impaired mobility, which is one reason why she moved into an assisted living community this week. Three of her four daughters, including Wife, were involved in the move. Things have been a little crazy around here lately.

The appointment was in Graham, the county seat. It's not far. Graham shares...

In my never-ending struggle to keep things rolling here in the Dry Slot I've found that there are two ways to proceed. One is to sit by the keyboard and think. The other is to get up and go.

By now I have accumulated experience with both approaches. The first method is harder. It might not seem so at first. All you have to do is sit there and wait for inspiration to strike. Then with the hot idea burning a hole in your head, type it up, and Bob's yo...
