Thick fog continues, calm, a muggy 16C, fog to remain the order of the day. Clearing and higher temps for the remainder of the holiday weekend.
Fishery news remains dismal, herring close to shore not happening, seiners working on the Banks, something that is usually done much earliar or later in the season. No groundfish being landed, locally at least.

Shared your story along with OGAL's memories with Emily, she enjoyed them and smiled, couldn't tell if it was a sincere or one of those ' you are just saying that to encourage me to like it' situations. Emily has not embraced the idea of living in residence as yet, see what the weeklong orientations does for her.
Traffic on the ferry has been steady, but the trips I have been on no problem getting space. Today will be a bit different as folks want to be here for the holiday, but with 500 spaces coming this way should keep ahead of any back log as the day moves along.
Fog thick enough to cut and spread on your toast. I dealt with it yesterday so heck with it today. From reading news reports northeast of the border I may have a long time ashore to say the heck with it. At best a very unpleasant situation on both sides of the border for our respective lobster industries and at worst a financial catastrophe for all involved. Bottom line is that working people will be hurt the most. My hope is that like the Phoenix, out of the ashes will rise a slightly different business plan in which fishermen will get a bit more financial reward.
Summer in full swing. My SSD (Summer Seasonal Disorder)has kicked in. Like a little kid there is too much to do and too little time to do it in. The days are too long and nights too short. The fourth wedding of the summer on the island is today. Labor Day not too far away.
Both of our girls have the shopping gene. My grandmother was a bit unsteady walking but at 95 give her a shopping cart and she was a race car driver. Not a lot of technology in a shopping cart but quite an aid in mobility.

Local carriers going your way for herring from seiner off Mt. Dessert, long haul from there to Blacks Harbour. Seems to be fish not showing up like they have in the past, they do have tails and will go where they want.
You mentioned squid a few days ago, they have shown up sround the wharf in North Head, kids having a grand time jigging them.
Speaking with one of the fisherman yesterday about the changes in the water going on locally. He mentioned the lack of sea fleas in areas always notorious for cleaning out the bait unless in cups. Lots of conjecture of what causes this dramatic swing in the cycle going on in the water.
Long weekend underway north of the border, looks as if weather will co-operate for the gathering. Have a good one.

Well - here we are in Grand Manan. I had serious doubts about getting on the 'Adventure' but made it and I am sure could have squeezed a few more. In the old days if you were in lane 5 you were waiting for at least 2 more boats. :) Sailing good, slight roll, no big deal. Wind up-top gale force. HaHa Coming in to North Head the sun broke out and all was warm and toasty.
First stop - bakery for St. John Valley Bread.
The liars club crib tournament at the shed was on in full mood when we arrived in Seal Cove. Husband headed immediately there. He did 'chuck' everything in to the house 'for ya' before he headed over. So thoughtful???? HaHa
Don't know how long we will survive here. People who rented before us decided half an hour showers and full laundries every day were in order even though we are in a drought. The well is like 1/3 full of water. Brian left here on Wednesday and said she was coming up? but to me it hasn't raised an inch in two days. So, am just going to carry on as usual and if we run out then hopefully we can find somewhere else to rent for the remainder of the week. (why must I have stress on my vacation??)
Tomorrow morning off to the Farmer's Market. Brought some of my jewellery to sell so am getting a table. Then off to the events.
Hope to catch up with you too and please, if you have a list of people who may or may not rent a spot, keep on hand for me. I may need it.
Talk soon.
Word. Chunks.
