.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that there was considerable thunderbumper activity in Sonora, lasting all day and all last night. During the day yesterday several large cells drifted off the Sonoran coast and moved out into the Sea causing scattered rain showers and mild thunderbumpers from just south of Concepción Bay to the bay of LA.
Here in the cove at around 1:00pm we had cell pass over giving us a brief shower along with a lot of thunder and lightning.
This morning there is a considerable amount of cloudiness in the central and northern Sea that is remnants of storms that started in central Sonora. Looking out my window I can see some have dark bottoms so some of these could have a sprinkle or two left in them.
This is the time of year when we start to see some thunderbumper activity here on the Baja side back in the coastal mountains.
Looking now south toward the cape area where I can see some cloudiness in the southern crossing that will most likely be gone by mid morning.
Further south along the Mexican Riviera I can see that Cabo Corrienties and Puerto Vallarta have a big honk’n thumper directly over it this morning. Neither of the Puerto Vallarta stations was reporting any rain accumulations.
Looking further south it looks like the entire coast has been having scattered showers all night.
Looking now into our Tropical Kitchen where we have a himicane, a hurricane and a wanna-be.
Himicane Daniel was plutoed to a tropical storm at 3 O’clock this morning and is still headed due west toward Hawaii.
Hurricane Emilia was up graded to a hurricane late yesterday and is forecast to follow in Daniels tracks as a major hurricane before starting to weaken on Wednesday. She is currently around 700 miles south of the cape packing gusts to 145 knots.
On the back burner is our “Wanna-be” designated invest 98. This is the tropical wave that came slinking through the Tehuantepec isthmus yesterday looking for a lonely low to stimulate. He jumped on one several hundred miles south of Acapulco during the night and is producing widespread scattered showers. Conditions appear to be ripe for tropical development and the National Hurricane Center is giving this a 40% chance of becoming cyclonic in the next 48 hours. Should this happen he will tropical storm Favio. Humph…sounds like a male stripper.
That’s what is going on in our hood, so looking now north to the west coast of America where high pressure is keeping the inland locations in triple digits and along the coast mostly in the 80s today.
Southern California could see some afternoon and evening thunderbumper in the mountains and deserts with the increasing monsoon moisture in the area. The coast will be a bit cooler with the marine layer extending inland until late morning.
Looking now over to the southwest where ample moisture will provide scattered mainly afternoon and evening thunderbumpers today. Tis the monsoon season and this will be the norm for the rest of this week.
That’s what is gong on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the moderate southerlies continue in the Sea for the 3-day forecast period. Temperatures are starting to creep up a degree or two. Here in the cove we hit 100 yesterday afternoon.
