.Looking down into the Sea this morning in the 24 hour loop I can see that the cloudiness especially in the southern Sea cleared by mid morning yesterday and the rest of the Sea was pretty much clear of any cloudiness all day.
In the early afternoon I can see convection building along the coastal mountains from just south of La Paz to a bit south of Santa Rosalia. It does not look like any of these developed into real thumpers. Most likely some posturing, some thunder and lighting without any rain.
This morning the southern Sea between Los Mochas and La Paz has some residual remnant cloudiness from storms in Sonora last night. There are no indications of any thunderbumpers encroaching into the Sea from Sonora last night or this morning.
This image is showing no thunderbumper activity in the Sea at all last night. There could have been some isolated small thumpers but nothing in the Chubbasco class.
Looking now over to Sonora where there was a lot of thunderbumper activity yesterday afternoon with most of the storms stopping at the Fence. It looks like mostly showers moved north into Arizona last evening and then north into the Great Basin.
Looking now south to along the Mexican Riviera where there was some moderate thunderbumper back in the mountains behind Manzanillo and Zihuatanejo bringing mostly cloudiness to the coast.
Off shore in this region I can see several squalls working this morning.
Looking father south I can see the Tehuantepec is clear this morning after a tropical wave moved through the isthmus yesterday.
Looking now at the ITCZ/Monsoon trough I can see two 1009 lows embedded in the zone this morning. One of these was designated as invest 99. This morning the U.S. Navy has dropped the designation.
Looking now into our tropical kitchen.
With that low in the ITCZ/Monsoon trough no longer considered to be a threat to develop into anything tropical that leaves the tropical wave that came through the Tehuantepec isthmus yesterday. It has developed into a low within the zone however the forecast is for little or no development to occure at this time. So well put that on the back burner.
Looking out in the Caribbean I can see another Tropical Wave headed our way. The models are a bit more aggressive with this wave’s development once it passes through central America into the basin. That’s a couple of days out though.
So it looks right now that there won’t be anything cooking in our Tropical Kitchen for at least the next 48 hours.
That’s what is going on in our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where there is a weak low that is pushing through western Washington this morning bringing a chance of showers and thunderbumpers today. The forecast is for a day of sun and a day of possible showers for the next week for the Great Northwest.
Northern California is experiencing typical July weather with the inland valleys near the century mark and the mid 70s along the coast.
Southern California will be fair and warm today with patchy coastal fog in the morning. Monsoonal moisture will gradually increase through the weekend with some showers and thunderbumper today through Wednesday mostly during the afternoons over the mountains and deserts. Temperatures just a tad higher than seasaon norms this weekend. Gradual cooling should occur starting early next week.
Looking now over to the southwest where moisture will move back into the redion today through the weekend. This will result in an upswing in thunderbumper activity expecially today and Saturday. A few severe thunderbumper are possible this afternoon into this evening. Locally heavy rain is likely as well the possablity of some flash flooding. Tomorrow could be a gully washer as well.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like our moderate southerlies will continue throughout the weekend. Picking up just a bit on Saturday but less than 20 knots.
Temperatures continue to be in the mid to high 90s.
