.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that long plume of clouds moving up from the ITCZ/Monsoon trough for the past few days appears to be weakening. This plume has been feeding moisture into the Sea and into central Mexico.
The past 24 hours the southern Sea has periodic rain showers often heavy at times. The cape area reported over 4 inches of rain yesterday. The East Cape about and inch and a half. Down town Loreto two and a half inches of rain. Mulegé and the Guaymas area a little over an inch.
This morning this image is not showing the heavy rain around the cape that they had yesterday afternoon and evening. Even though the moister plume appears to be weakening it is still providing solid cloud cover for the southern Sea.
The central Sea has also had its share of showers but not with intensity of the southern Sea. A 5:30 image was showing a long string of cells in the center of the Sea from a bit north of La Paz to the middrifts. There are several cells with high tops that could be producing chubbasco winds. Here at el Burro it has been calm all night and at 5:30 the bay was flat and no wind. By 7:30 this sting of cells in the center of the Sea was from La Paz to Puerto Panesco almost shore to shore. However still no winds her in the cove.
The rest of the northern Sea is curently mainly overcast although the San Filipe area looks clear this morning?
Will these condition continue today? Based on the amount of moisture in the air and building convection over central Mexico I’d say we have a pretty good chance of a day like yesterday in the central Sea. If that plume continues to weaken the southern Sea could see some clearing starting this morning. We’ll see?
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera I can see that there has been some locations that have had light rain within the past 24 hours but this morning it is mostly clear along the coast. The Mazatlan area had about an inch of rain yesterday.
Not much going on in our Tropical Kitchen this morning. Hector is history. There is a Tropical Wave that is somewhere around the Tehuantepec isthmus this morning. It has not immerged in the Pacific yet. There is another Tropical Wave around Vera Cruz that will emerge in our hood probably this weekend. No tropical development is forecast for the Eastern Pacific basin for at least the next 48 hours.
That’s what is going on in our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where the Great Northwest is experiencing unseasonal hot weather and the rest of the west coast pretty much normal for August.
Southern California will be humid with the increase in monsoonal moisture in the region. There is a possibility of thunderbumpers in the inland valleys as well as the deserts and the mountains this afternoon.
Looking now over to the southwest where it will be a little cooler today. The monsoon with continue monsooning bringing a daily cycle of afternoon and evening thunderbumpers and showers into the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like for the central and northern Sea they may see a few more showers today. The winds in general are forecast to be in the moderate ranges so bring on the rain.
The only down side to the rain were having is some minor flooding and a few rock slides on the roads. We really need the rain after a very dry summer here last year.
