Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning the eye is drawn to a big honk’n thunderbumper that started around midnight right over Mazatlan and has been building ever since. At 5 O’clock it was about half way across the southern crossing extending from just south of Los Mochas to just north of Puerto Vallarta. By 7:30 it was almost all the way across from along the east cape to La Paz. It continues to grow.
The 24 hour loop is showing some cloudiness in the Sea yesterday, mostly high whispys though. Looking over at Sonora I can see that there was a rather moderate flow of monsoon moisture moving up into Arizona yesterday and last night. This loop is not showing any thunderbumper activity in the rest of the Sea last night.
With the exception of “Bubba” sitting in the southern crossing the rest of the Sea looks to be pretty much cloud free this morning.
Looking now south of “Bubba” along the Mexican Riviera I can see a nice thumper working around Lazaro Cardenas and another over Acapulco this morning and that’s it for the Riviera this morning.
Looking further south to the Tehuantepec I can see that during the night there has been heavy thunderbumper activity from the Caribbean side of the Tehuantepec isthmus to several hundred miles west of the Gulf of Tehuantepec. At 5:30 most of the activity was in the Gulf or to the west of the Gulf.
Looking now at the ITCZ and the monsoon trough. I can see the monsoon tough is quite small this morning and is only from 85-95W along 10N this morning.
Nothing cooking in our tropical kitchen this morning. Dora is now what the real meteorologists call “Post Tropical”, meaning Dora is seriously depressed and will linger about 300 miles off the Baja peninsula for a few days with 20-25 knot winds before heading to Hawaii.
One final note on Dora. No rain or wind at the cape as she passed to the west but huge breakers took 10 vertical feet of sand from the beaches along the East Cape around San Jose del Cabo. 10 vertical feet!
Yesterday a Taxi driver told me some of the ranches back in the mountains had a bit of rain and here on the beach my palapa sitter told me that we a sprinkle on Saturday morning.
That’s it for our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see a low trough off the coast that is influencing the entire west coast this morning.
For the Great Northwest there is a chance of some sprinkles today. It should be overcast until probably Thursday.
Northern California overcast along the coast and sunny inland until the end of the week
Southern California will continue to have a heavy marine layer with the fog lasting until late mornings into the weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where dryer air from the west will bring reduced thunderbumper activity through Thursday. Then as high pressure rebuilds over the west the monsoon faucet will turn on again this weekend. This loop is showing some thunderbumper activity yesterday afternoon in southwest Arizona.
Across the border our delightful summer continues today. As far as the winds they will be light to moderate. What I’m having a problem with is the central Sea and why two of my three models show a northern flow. My logic is saying light to moderate southerlies. I went with the Virtual Buoys this morning with there northern flow. I think most of our winds today, this afternoon, will be thermally driven anyway.
Temperatures look like they will be in the mid to high 90s today.
