Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the moisture plume that has been responsible for the whispys over the cape has pretty much dried up this morning. What is left of the plume has swung to the south and Mazatlan to Cabo Corrienties will see a few whispys probably just this morning.
A secondary moisture plume originating along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough out around 145 is sending mostly whispys over the northern Sea this morning and it looks like the plume is moving south so I’d expect the central Sea will see some of these later today.
Looking further south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec where winds will continue to be light northerlies until Friday night when they will increase to the 20-25 knot ranges into Saturday night.
It looks right now that a low will be forming a bit to the south of the Gulf over the weekend that could bring on a wind event in the Gulf. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to get a better picture what’s happening there.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific basin and the ITCZ/Monsoon trough this morning I can see that it remains quite active from Central America out to around 150.
Taking a look in our tropical kitchen this morning. That tropical wave we have been following for the past several days is moving into the western Caribbean and should enter the Eastern Pacific basin most likely Friday. A low is forecast to from within the ITCZ/Monsoon trough over the weekend and right now the models are pretty much in agreement that the two will get together and probably crank up into a tropical storm early next week. We’ll see?
That’s about it for our hood so looking north to the west coast of America of America where a cold weather maker low is parked off the Washington coast. This will be bringing rain to the low lands and snow to the higher elevation for the rest of the week for Oregon and Washington.
This system will just brush northern California with no rain south of the Oregon/California border.
In southern California low pressure will bring cooler weather and locally strong and gusterly winds in the mountain passes and the deserts into the Memorial Day weekend. The forecast is for Grey May to continue along the coast.
Looking now over to the southwest where low pressure is expected to keep the region dry and windy at times for the rest of the week and into early next week. The strongest winds will occur today and be in the 25-30 mph ranges and then will gradually be lighter each day to the end of the week. Temperatures will remain near seasonal norms.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the entire Sea of Cortez will be see SSE winds over the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: around 18 today, 16 tomorrow and 13 on Friday.
The northern Sonoran coast, Bahia Keno Nuevo and Puerto Panesco 19-25 today, mid teens tomorrow and around 10 knots on Friday.
The central Sea: The Guaymas/San Carlos area mid teens over the next 3 days. On the Baja side: around 20 today and the high teens for Thursday and Friday.
The southern Sea: The San Lorenzo channel and nearby islands: light to moderate from the SW for the 3-day forecast period. La Paz: less than 10 from the SSE for the next 3 days.
The East Cape: mid teens for the 3-day forecast period.
The Sonoran passage: Los Mochas north to Guaymas today high teens from the SW then moderate SW for the entire passage for Thursday and Friday.
The Mexican Riviera: WSW in the mid teens for the 3-day forecast period.
