Last Tuesday, my AT&T 2WIRE router stopped working. The modem functionality worked but I no longer had a connection to the Internet because the router functionality failed. In addition, I discovered a couple of days later that the PC running my weather station software died; it would no longer boot Windows 7. I'm usually on a Mac at home so I didn't bother checking my PC for some time. Both of these problems may have been caused by a lightning strike very close to my house Tuesday evening during a heavy rainstorm (got almost 0.5" of rain). I saw a bright flash just past my backyard and immediately heard a very loud crack of thunder.
AT&T replaced my 2WIRE modem a few days ago and today I finally got my weather station software back up and running on a brand new PC. Thanks to the backups I regularly do to a NAS, it was fairly easy to restore the configuration from the old computer to the new one.
