2010 ING New York City Marathon Weather
Starting one week from race day, just to get an idea what to expect. The forecast will change,so look to the comments below for updates...
Hope it doesn't happen, and at 180 hours out the forecast is certain to numerous times, but the GFS keeps returning to cold & rain (or some form of precipitation) for this year's NYC marathon.

The official NWS forecast seems to agree more with the ECMWF model calling for better race day weather, but they hedge in their discussion (as I'm doing)
".LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH WEDNESDAY WITH HIGH PRESSURE IN CONTROL. AFTER THAT...THE PICTURE BECOMES MORE UNCERTAIN. MODELS HAVE BEEN SIGNALING EAST COAST LOW DEVELOPMENT TOWARD THE END OF THE WEEK...BUT WITH A LOT OF RUN TO RUN INCONSISTENCY IN TRACK AND INTENSITY. THE LATEST ECMWF AND CANADIAN RUNS PROG THE SURFACE LOW
WEST OF THE NY METRO...WHILE THE GFS SHOWS A WEAKER SYSTEM MUCH FURTHER TO THE EAST. INTERESTINGLY...THE GFS DEVELOPS A
SECOND...MORE VIGOROUS COASTAL SYSTEM LATE SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY WHICH IS NOT REALLY SUPPORTED BY THE OTHER MODELS. GIVEN THE LARGE UNCERTAINTIES IN THE EVOLUTION OF THE LOW LATE NEXT WEEK..KEPT POPS GENERALLY CONSERVATIVE WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT.
TEMPERATURES AVERAGING A FEW DEGREES BELOW CLIMO THROUGH THE
EXTENDED PERIOD."
The CPC 6-10 day outlooks prog colder than normal and about normal chance of precipitation.

According to Al Roker LOL,
"Almost everybody's bucket list includes running the ING New York City Marathon," said Roker. "Just the thought of being able to start this race gives me goose bumps. As does the fear that the weather might turn ugly. On the other hand, if it does that might help improve my time as I try to outrun an angry mob of soggy and cold runners!"
I'm saying it might be a good idea to pack that cold weather and rain gear...
Good luck runners, especially:

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40.

:)
"Long term /Friday night through Monday/... the upper trough off to the west will continue to amplify...deepening into a closed low late Friday night into Sat...with another wave of surface low pressure developing well offshore but helping to pull very cool air down into the area on north-northwest flow. As the closed low and its surface trough reflection pass through...clouds will hang
on...with isolated rain/snow showers over the interior and rain showers at the coast.
Dry weather likely Sunday and Monday as the system moves north into Canada. Below normal temperatures likely through the period. "
So...

New York City Metro Weather
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 37.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 47.
My friends got into the NYC marathon in a variety of ways, Jeff by qualifying time (Congrats!), Jen and Rebecca by raising $3,000 each for the Cancer research charity Fred's Team (you are already winners!), and the rest by lottery. I did not get in, but it looks like I will be running a Marathon the same day in W.VA and it will be a little colder for me...
Lows in the lower 20s :O but warming quickly to a high near 50. Being a much, much, much smaller marathon, I should be able to hang out in my vehicle or indoors right up until the start, while my compatriots are huddling for warmth ;) out on Staten Island.
