Entering a long weekend to honor our service who we've lost and who are still in harm's way.I could never be more proud of our servicemen, they sacrifice everything, lives, family, health, but for me our government doesn't do enough for them and their family. I have read too many stories where service men and their families are left to struggle. Our armed forces hospitals are way under funded.Service men have to fight too much to get treatment after returning, families of those killed struggle to make ends meet.As former Air Force member during the Vietnam war,I never served in Vietnam, but I was stationed in Japan where there was a hospital that the wounded were brought.I volunteered to work at the hospital. It was a sobering experience to see those soldiers torn apart.Something I will never forget, and something I still reach out to my congressman. To do more for our serviceman,as far as Im concerned of all the waste my tax dollars go to ,not enough of my tax dollars go to helping our serviceman and families.I write often to my representatives. Some reply, some don't.
Much can be said as to why our wounded vets continue to be neglected once they return home. It's basically about the warped political idealogy that funding wars can somehow be supplied by continued tax cuts for the rich and severe austerity cuts in salary and benefits for the remaining 99 percent. Where's the logic in that? Basically, in the past, it's mostly been the 99 percent who, when gainfully employed with decent pay, have contributed the most to our vets and other related charitable causes. When politicians care more about protecting the greedy CEO's rather than obtaining needed revenues through actual job creation and a much needed equitable tax base for all, this is what you get, i.e., a government that defunds all social programs, including, those of our veterans, etc. Painfully, it all boils down to which politcal party's ideology one ascribes to and which party will have the upper hand in doing the right or wrong thing! It's obvious that no one politician can do it alone, especially, when one or the other's political party is stacked against him or her.
On a brighter note, hope you and yours have a decent Memorial Day weekend ahead and your on-call status remains very quiet. Looks like we may get two out of three days of half-way decent weather.

Pat, Thank you for that, its heart wrenching and brings back some memories of when I talked to wounded soldiers in the hospital on the base where I was stationed in Japan.Stories were very similar,it send chills down your spine. For those who have never been in battle, and I am one of them, there is no way to fathom what goes on,and what its like. My heart and prayers go out to all the soldiers out there and I stand and salute every one of them.

Hi,Mass,I hear your anger with our politicians,I'm fed up with the whole system.Im at the point,I go and vote, because I must, we all must vote or we may find one day its been taken away from us,but I sure don't have any confidence in any one I vote for these days, from the local politician all the way up to the highest office in the country. Oh well, another cloudy unsettled day today.kind of what we have had most of the month.A real summery day tomorrow, before it turns unsettled again for Sunday and part of Monday.Redsox and Tampa Bay tonight, important weekend series.Celtics may win tonight, maybe, but they have no chance against the heat,so it really doesn't matter if they win tonight. They are so banged up,its just sad watching them play.
