Our country celebrated our birthday in grandstyle around the country. In some of the major cities, great fireworks.
Lots of concerts,we had a excellent concert with Jennifer Hudson the star of the show.We had a bried interruption in the middle of the show as a severe storm was baring down on the esplanade,so they evacuated everyone into a nearby road tunnel, but the storm fell apart and never threatened the show,so the concert went on,and so did the spectacular fireworks.
The midwest sweltered through the celebrations, the middleatlantic celebrated in the dark.
Several people were struck by lightning, 3 people in New Hampshire,2 people in South Boston.
A house party in New Hampshire where home fireworks are allowe, suddenly turned disasterous when an errant firework display landed on their deck where a whole stack of fireworks were sitting and they exploded injuring a bunch of people including children. In fact one 8 month old girl is severely burned and still in intensive care in a medically induced coma. This is a reason why most states don't allow them, because of mishaps like this.
I was staining and working to complete my molding all day,so was too tired to go anywhere. Waltham does have fireworks, but I was not up to it.
I will be very glad when this is done.

It was expected that the ridge that has been sitting in the center of the country for so long, baking those areas with record breaking temps was to retrograde west and start heating up the west, while the midwest and east would cool down and become more normal.Well, now indications are that ridge isn't going to retrograde like that thought,so stay tuned.
Last night we had quite the mish-mash between a loud thunderstorm passing through around(9:00 pm) while not too distant fireworks could be heard prior to, interspersed during, then post t'storm. For once, I'm lucky to be living in the half of Methuen where a power outage didn't result from lightning striking trees, then falling onto, and downing power lines. These days, it's the slim luck of the draw in this town! LOL!
Thankfully, yesterday's humidity seems to have lessened to much more comfortable levels and temps today. I guess Saturday looks rather "iffy" but most of the week ahead looks perfect for vacationers or, in your case, after hours renovators.
I, too, saw last night's tv news reports about the horrific (so-called accidental) fireworks explosion that occurred in a Pelham, NH home. You wouldn't believe the silent expletive deletives I have for this wealthy doofus who legally bought then stored HUGE amounts of virtual dangerous explosives INSIDE his home. Did you see all the remaining caseloads that fire marshalls were taking from the home afterwards? Truly, there are no words and, to think, an innocent two yr old boy - (per Boston.com and other local major news sources) now remains in the intensive care unit of a major Boston hospital, in an induced coma, with major second/third degree burns!!
Glad to hear you didn't lose power, that looked like a mean storm as it passed your area.
All we had was a quick downpour that formed over us around 10:30 pm.
Anyway, someone started a sing along and they all started singing God Bless America while they were waiting in the tunnel.Gotta love Americans on the 4th,so Patiotic, too bad we couldn't hold onto that patriotism all year.We really do have the best country in the world, despite all the flaws that need to be fixed.
I'd like to try to find a video of that impromptu recital from the Boston Pops. How cool was that!
We are currently 102 degrees here again today. Yesterday was about the same.
Your project may be coming along slowly, but it really sounds like you are doing some nice things. Will you post a pic? (prob not and I understand)
Hope you stay cool out there. Don't work too hard!
Yeh,the project is comeing along, its been frustrating with the staining, the darker stain is really bringing out the imperfections in the pine.I'm exhausted.I'll try to get some pics when its done.
There wasn't alot of storms, one particular storm that started up in New Hampshire and really did a lot of damage on its trip into Massachusetts, luckily losing its energy before it got to Boston.
