NEW Education Section

classes taught by the Hotties

welcome to solar education class. you may notice we have a nice tan; hair color natural, not like sunbleached surfers; and a subtle glow coming from deep inside. soOoo, with that said watch the whiteboard and pay attention please !

Solar Radiation today was 276 W/m² (watts per meter squared) from 6.40 - 8.45am
This tells us we can take this figure(the number, not me) and multiply it by a precise number to get the Peak S.R. for today.
To obtain this FACTOR constant we examine yesterday's S.R. PeakTime Total(868 W/m²) from 6.40am - 1.20pm and,
comparing yesterday's 6.40 - 8.45am S.R. increment (278) for the same/very similar starting times, graph slopes, interpolating & extrapolating and exponentiating and disestablishmentarianismorgasmingming, to-to-today's(see above)whew the FACTOR to the nearest 31 places is:
3.1223021582733812949640287769784
OK? good. NOW that we are calm and relaxed|smiling we do not fall asleep?, we multiply today's incremental dosage of post-dawn S.R. by that FACTOR and get: 862 W/m².
What does it all mean??? It means a negligible difference in peak solar radiation for today compared to yesterday.
The Heat Index is the same today as yesterday, and they calculated it 24 hours ago!

Day 2
We can expand on the winds, their directions at night, cloud cover, and diurnal cooling.

• In the region of the southern plains wind blowing from any northern direction at night tends to cool the air 2 miles high, at ground level¸ and in between too. Other wind origination directions depend upon their own temperatures. We know the complex barometric pressures in our atmosphere vary constantly, yet a simple rule to understand is: air flows from a higher pressure to a lower pressure- like squeezing a filled balloon with a tiny hole in it.

• The Gulf of Mexico is a large body of water that heats during the day, cools just slightly at night. There are morning breezes, sea breezes and febrezes. A wind blowing across the G.O.M. toward the north will pick up and carry moist air. We know how humid air feels warmer than dry air, even in our homes. Taking a shower may make us perspire, and feel hotter until we step out of the shower, towel dry and leave the room, where instantly it feels much cooler and refreshing. Being hotties we know!

• Typically it cools off at night with the Sun apparently sinking in the west. In fact, the Earth is rotating clockwise - toward the east. Between 15 to 30 degrees should be the temp differential after sunset, called diurnal(day and night) cooling. Factors that prevent limit or advance cooling are winds, humidity, and land surface temperature.

Tomorrow will be a short quiz and then another in-depth lecture.

Today is the day after the day after tomorrow; no lecture was implanted here; and the quiz was given to all who attended.

We're sorry to neglect our students, but it Has Been Cold for us these past few days. Some of u may-not-no, hotties Я very sensitive to temps b-low 90.6, our skin temperature while suntanning with 50+ Sunscreen.

Beware of Darkness by George Harrison © 1970

Watch out now
Take care, beware of falling swingers
Dropping all around you
The pain that often mingles
In your fingertips
Beware of darkness

Watch out now
Take care, beware the thoughts that linger
Winding up inside your head
The hopelessness around you
In the dead of night
Beware of sadness

It can hit you
It can hurt you
Make you sore and what is more
That is not what you are here for

Watch out now
Take care, beware of soft shoe shufflers
Dancing down the sidewalks
As each unconscious sufferer
Wanders aimlessly
Beware of Maya

Watch out now
Take care, beware of greedy leaders
They'll take you where you should not go
While weeping Atlas Cedars
They just want to grow, grow and grow
Beware of darkness (Beware of darkness)

The Heat Index didn't drop off the charts until 3am, when it was 84° The temperature is still falling slowly, from 75° at 5am to 70° now at 6.45am.  Since then Δ T is increasing

at 11.20am the H.I ≈ 102 | T ≈ 92 and the Heat Advisory hasn't even started yet!

At 1.35pm Heat Index 111° | 2.20pm Solar Radiation 947 w/m2 | 2.40 Temp reached 100° and continues an upward trend.

2.53pm  Friday
The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued Heat Advisory, which is in effect Saturdayfrom Noon until 9 PM.

Today will be about the same as yesterday  ≈ 103° ±3°
The sunburnt necks will blister, so try to be a good little cowboy and park it!

UV Index 11+: Extreme

A UV Index reading of 11 or higher means extreme risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure. Try to avoid sun exposure during midday hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 liberally every 2 hours.
Take all precautions. Unprotected skin can burn in minutes. Beachgoers should know that white sand and other bright surfaces reflect UV and will increase UV exposure.
Try to avoid sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Seek shade, cover up, wear a hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreen.
It is possible to go outside when the UV Index is 11 or higher. Make sure you always seek shade, wear a hat, cover up, wear 99-100% UV-blocking sunglasses, and use sunscreen. Or you can opt to stay indoors and take the opportunity to relax with a good book rather than risk dangerous levels of sun exposure.

last week were reports about a very powerful solar storm.

"The solar flare peaked at about 12:50 p.m. ET as an X-class sun storm, the most powerful type of flare the sun can have.  X-class solar flares are the strongest type of storms that occur on the sun. When aimed at Earth, the most powerful X-class flares can endanger satellites and astronauts in space, interfere with navigation and communications signals, and damage power system infrastructure."

Hello hello hello
Is there anybody

● 8.35am The temperature has nudged up a bit to 75° since the 72° overnite low at 4.50am & humidity is 89% relative. The skies have cleared. The day begins, the clowns may return...

Today should be slightly warmer than yesterday - 91°
However, that temp is not etched in stone, nor is it my own idea. It is a PointCast for my insignificant area by the Weather Service.  Read more just below about yesterday's surprising duplicate rain fall. I was unavailable, elsewhere then, and did not update last nite.

2.55pm 89° 97° first Peak Temp & H.I.

Last Update for the Situation-- they  are standing still
There are many storms East of here but the mixdown of the Drier Air from Kansas has controlled our rainless half-cloudy day.

Hard to know exactly where to look & hard to see the NE-SW lying clouds have nearly reached the Red River here, and will very likely be rain filled. Click it for high resolution.
(Satellite image auto updates)

Yes ter Day

● 1pm The temp was not at all that high, as 87° but the H.I. was 95 and Solar Rads 1150 W/m2 (watts per square meter), the highest so far this year. Within 30 minutes everything changed. First at 1.15 the Winds Gusted from the NNE at 25mph, ushering in the storm. Next: Temp plummeted 14° to 73, H.I. fell off the chart, Solar Rads went to 0 (the sky was completely overcast from dense high clouds); all this all at once and then it began to rain 0.7 inches in 15 minutes (a downpour). By 3.15 the H.I. tied its earlier reading, temp was 84 and solar rads peaked the same as before.
2-Day Rain Total 1.4 in.  A dent in the drought has started. Another 6 in. by the end of July and crops will grow and cattle will have grass to eat.

As for the rest of you, this prolonged lack of rain was a warning to the polluters who live in denial. There is a microclimate in this area where I live, quickly altered by passenger truck fumes, controlled burns of tree stumps left from cut down trees, burning leaves, and mostly the ignorant attitude many polluters have that defies common sense and reason and who insist they can destroy, poison the water, cut, burn and smoke up the skies whenever they want. I differ with this attitude. We should be thankful for this pristine area we have that is slowly appearing on the EPA Watchlist.

Monday the day before yesterday
This afternoon was surprising. because it finally rained!
I heard the thunder and got between my satiny sheets to rest, ignoring the skies, and the air machine. Too many times had I watched too many promising storms simply fade away while I reported them here for Many hours, almost all bewildering wastes of time. When I heard a louder thunderclap I came here(to my blog) and checked the WunderMap® only to have multiple power outages from cloud-to-ground lightning. It did rain 0.7 inches from 4.30-5pm -- heralded by a 35mph gust from the North, with a  Δ T = -16°.  The Temp fell 16° from 89 -73 in 20 min(4.50-5.10pm)

I'm reporting in-depth because this was significant weather and the National Weather Service was right, while giving themselves leeway  to  be right even if it didn't rain!

A UV Index reading of 8 to 10 means VERY HIGH risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure. Minimize sun exposure during midday hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Protect yourself by liberally applying a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Wear protective clothing and sunglasses to protect the eyes. Take extra precautions. Unprotected skin will be damaged and can burn quickly. Minimize sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Otherwise, seek shade, cover up, wear a hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreen. Take all precautions. Unprotected skin can burn in minutes. Beachgoers should know that white sand and other bright surfaces reflect UV and will increase UV exposure. Seek shade, cover up, wear a hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreen.

*The UV Index is predicted by the National Weather Service each day for the following day.
