A Farewell to Arms (To Queen Elizabeth)

This is also the source of Hemmingway's title.
I was thinking about this the other day. There comes a day in every warrior's life when he bids Farewell to Arms.
Some serve long and successful careers, surviving many conflicts by either skill, luck, divine intervention, or a combination. (I don't really subscribe to the concept of fate) Some decide to leave earlier for whatever reason. Some because they feel like they've pushed their luck as far as they are willing, or that they are just getting too old to fight anymore and don't want a desk job.
I salute all of them. This blog, as this weekend, is directed chiefly to those for whom the decision was taken out of their hands. To those who paid the ultimate price in the service to their country. And to those who survived the fight, but have since left us.
In time, there will be no one left alive who remembers your face or your name. However, your sacrifice will never be forgotten as it is what allows us the freedom and security that we have today and those that follow you will keep us free and safe tomorrow.
We finally got a little feeder band rain for about 15 minutes. :)
Hope this puppy can do better than that later on.
I think by the time "this puppy" is gone you will probably be ready for it to leave. Slowly working it's way towards you. Has lost lots of it's umph, but still a lot of rain.
Eventually you'll probably get "banded".
Have had some storms training through here for the last couple hours. Nothing severe today though.
Showers here on and off today.
Enough to keep everything green and shiny.
The sky is threatening to produce a nice Sunset in a while.
I think I'll invite the Ladies up to the deck for a cold beverage and some nibbly stuff.
It seems that I am cooking tonight.
Strange that, because I am pretty sure I cooked last night....
I knew I should have written it down somewhere!
I went to Publix this morning for 2 things.
Butter for my Apple Fritters that I made tonight.
And Blueberries for SugarBear.
I only needed 2 items so I didn't write it down.
I got home with butter, strawberries, and bananas.
When I opened the fridge door I saw the almost empty container of Blueberries.
SugarBear was out back watering some plants.
I drove like a bat out of hell to Publix and back.
Just as I was putting the Blueberries in the fridge SugarBear walked in the back door.
She said "Did you remember my Blueberries?"
Of course Honey I said. :)

The yard is already loving it.
Looks like the heavier stuff will be on its way later.
Made the Apple Fritter dough tonight.
It is rising in the bowl and should be ready at 2110 hours.
Takes 20 minutes to bake. So by 2130 hours they will be ready.
Have to let them cool a little and then cover them with the glaze.
By 2145 hours tonight we will know who makes the better Apple Fritter.
Snakeymon, or Publix.
I will let SugarBear call that one. :)
Yes, it's a Good Thing that we Chaps can think fast.
Otherwise we would spend a lot of time in Penance.
Self-inflicted, mind you, but unpleasant nevertheless.
Have not tasted a Blueberry in many years.
Maybe I could get Lady Pott to bring a container back from the UK. She leaves on Wed. for 2 weeks.
WOE is me!
Been raining most of the afternoon.
Back and forth between light misty stuff and soaking rain.
'Tis good I suppose, except that I noted (though I did not write it down) that the grass seems to have grown 3 inches this weekend.
Pent up energy I suppose.
Frogs are happy, birds were singing.
Me, I'm tired and ready to sleep real soon now.
Of course I will have to have yours and Pottery's simply because you are not here right now, but know in your hearts that were you all here I would share this delicacy with you.
Now, don't you both feel better?

Actually, and strangely, I feel a whole lot worse.
I wonder why.
And, I seem to have developed a drool......
I asked her to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 so I could tell you guys about it.
She said to tell you guys that there wasn't a crumb left on her plate
and she even scooped up the glaze that ran over the side of the fritter!
She only does that with hot fudge sundies!
I think I will stop buying them from Publix. :)
This has to be the slowest moving thing I've ever seen.

I'm still suffering from a Bad Case of Drool.
There were dancing pictures of Fritters leaping about on the walls and ceiling as I drank my coffee.
While the sky drizzled and dripped.
It is interesting how different receipes can be called the same thing.
The fritters from Publix are more like bread or cinnamon rolls.
The receipe I used was from a Southern Georgia resturant and came out more like a thick bisquit.
It used 3 cups of self rising flour and an entire can of apple pie filling.
You are lucky to find a few tiny pieces of apple in the Publix ones.
This receipe made 14 fritters just chock full of apple pieces.
It does need about double the amt of Cinnamon it called for though. :)
And the glaze used apple juice which made the icing a little light.
Will add some half and half next time. :)
