Garden~

When to plant what & how in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama.

June gardening in Florida is harvesting, keeping the weeds down & prepping it for summer. For some that maybe setting okra, watermelon, black eyed peas, some household gourds in the ground for a summer garden..others it's time to throw down a cover crop of black eyed peas, marigolds or sweet potatoes.. wish them luck & go on vacation.

North FL Lima Beans, southern peas (cow, black eyed), okra, eggplant, sweet potatoes.

Central FL okra, southern peas & sweet potatoes.

South FL Sweet potatoes.

Recon is settling in around 4,900'. A few uncontaminated SFMR surface wind reading say higher surface (66mph) to lower flight winds (43mph)..have to see if this trend holds.

THEREFORE AN UNUSUALLY LARGE RIGHTWARD ADJUSTMENT
TO THE NHC FORECAST IS REQUIRED
...AND ADDITIONAL SHIFTS TO THE
NORTH AND EAST MAY BE NECESSARY IN SUBSEQUENT ADVISORY PACKAGES.

NEEDLESS TO SAY...THIS IS A LOW CONFIDENCE FORECAST.

Thus sets the stage for the playout of the next five months.

Thank you Skye for the updates. Wow...this storm may force the NHC expand the cone of doom for all later storms unless they take a hammer to the data and just throw it out. Bad news is more right is lesser shear component...I was thinking the west route would have kept the intensity down due to more shear...but it must emphasized that even the combined knowledge of the greatest tropical meteorologists still cannot produce very reliable intensity forecast models, so like Rob says above, we wish all of our WU friends everywhere to stay safe and stay informed...be prepared for the worst and hope for the best!

Of much lesser note, my snake saga still in progress (hopefully)...no new developments, internet sources say 3-4 days for hatching is not unusual.

P.S. Internet has gotten so slow I can no longer even pull up loops except WU radars. I have seen this happen before during storms but not so bad as this. Maybe just local...I have the top residential package from Central FL Bright House(share the cost with my gamer sons). Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Just a brief thought on Debby...I would have to look back in the archives to recall the storm names, but I can clearly remember some past strong GOM tropical storms that were highly sheared, and moved largely by center relocation caused by shear. I also recall at least a couple of these storms defying NHC forecasts. Maybe Debby will end up being similar...we will see.

Mid level convection is being sheared back hard. I thought NHC was missing the East gulf impact before with their track. Now I'm feeling a little left of them after LA coast. Mentioned something lastnight that it wouldn't surprise to see the toe of LA get a landfall but I still 1/2 expect a remnant to go more south & toward STX instead of staying over land.. Interesting storm to track, the multiple vorticity center reminds me of a large loose tornado.

Tornado reports:

06/24/2012 1225 PM Lake Worth, Palm Beach County.
Tornado, reported by broadcast media.
At 1256 PM EDT... broadcast media reported possible tornado damage in the a street area of Lake Worth. Damage reported to 4 houses. Time of damage estimated based on radar activity.

06/24/2012 1255 PM
Lantana, Palm Beach County.
Funnel cloud, reported by other federal.
At 1255 PM EDT... a member of the civil air patrol at the Lantana Airport reported a funnel cloud moving northward.

The Lantana funnel cloud must have touched down, because A street in Lake Worth is a little North of Lantana airport. Can't find any damage info in the news.

{{{Finn}}}~ Good to see you. Saw that tornadic twist in your town & had stopped by your blog. Glad there wasn't more damage. Looked like something that might just take shingles & not roofs. Thanks for the update.

Shep~ That is awesome:))

Wab~~ Recon did have her strengthening despite the time of day..

Many models are settling on Big Bend, coming out Jacksonville area. That shouldn't be much worse than a Cat 1 at worse, surge could be an added 4 so ft. Some have settled on LA. This could be stronger, maybe a Cat 2 worse case.. & then there is the unwavering Geos-5, only run through 45hrs so far but looks the same so far, meandering off La, days more rain for FL.

Steady sprinkle continues here. 0.24" so far. Y'all look out for tornadoes.

Thank you Skye. A little stronger! I am hoping that if it really stays fairly stationary or drifts north over the extensive GOM shelf it will cause upwelling of cooler waters and fade away...but if it drifts with a southerly component or moves over the FL peninsula we may still get some decent winds. I've got a lot of young trees with new growth, and a lot of newly trimmed bamboo poles meant for staking. I think I will get outside while there is still some light and reinforce the tender vegetation.

One more baby snake hatched a couple of hours ago...poor thing has been yoked to its yolk sack but it looks OK. Nine eggs to go. Some do not look good, but I hope a few more make it out.

Tornado with debris ball hit Yeehaw Junction went west of me up the county line. A line of heavy weather looks on the way.

North end of the county took the brunt. Just a little wind & rain. Looks like a weak upper level COC coming across the state from Tampa to Titusville. It's making me sleepy..

Hey Skye - Just the thought of the "debris ball" sends cold chills down my spine...splintered trees and rocks, sharp metal and broken glass, jagged pieces of buildings moving with so much force...how frail we are in the face of a monster like that. I haven't heard of any injuries from this particular storm that came too close to you and that is happy news. Property damage can be fixed, but it is very fortunate that no one was physically hurt or badly traumatized.

I watched that line of storms come in from the west off of the ocean, it was very strange. There was that convergent band pounding the Tampa Bay area for much of the day, then in the late afternoon/early evening it was as if the band swung around and attacked the entire FL Gulf coast from Tampa south, with the line moving in rapidly from the WSW as if it were some sort of front. Maybe a slug of dry air got pulled into the mid-layers and it was a sort of dry line. But whatever it was, with the line moving in from that direction and surface winds from the S and SE it was obviously big trouble the entire way across the state. We got lucky it wasn't worse.

Good morning all~ Squall line setting up & traversing FL this morning. Y'all be safe!

Still expecting Debby to sit there & drown FL through like Thursday or Friday before it starts trekking west. Maybe brush LA on the way to TX..

Flooding & tornadoes are the biggest threat. East central FL has been bumped up to the orange warning for tornadoes today.

AF309 is up.. got a fix, now buzzing the coast just south of Tampa at about 5000'..

Well the Geos-5, that I chased off this cliff finally changed it's path... Brings it right barely north over me. I've been in some pretty hard denial about this one. Not a convenient time at all for this. Though did cut a big branch down that would have tore up the barn lastnight.

Finn posted something on Grothar's blog that got me in an Empire Records state of mind.

Have been posting some of the tunes from that movie round and about.

Hope you love this one as much as I do!

Have a great night Skye!
