Garden~
When to plant what & how in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama.
August gardeners in Florida are busy readying beds, gathering seeds & planting. Harvest from late spring & early summer's garden continues. Don't forget to rotate your crops, for example..legumes (beans/peas), followed by heavy eaters like corn/tomatoes, then root crops & leafy greens. Surround with herbs & flowers when possible. Below is what each part of Florida should plant from seed this month.
North FL any beans, Broccoli, cauliflower, collards, corn cucumbers, onions, southern peas (cow, black eyed), peppers any squash, Tomato, turnips & watermelon.
Central FL pole beans, broccoli, celery, collards, corn, eggplant, okra, onions, peppers, pumpkins, any squash, watermelon.
South FL Pole & Lima beans, cantaloupes, collards, corn, eggplant, okra, southern peas, peppers, pumpkins, tomatoes & watermelon.

The radioactive sinkhole should be fully in the eye of ISAAC soon.
I'm thinking we will continue to see Isaac wobble slowly WNW for now, then hook up through LA probably clip maybe the east & the NE edge of TX, east side of OK may get a bit of rain, then move North up the west side of the MS River..leaving the moister east side to improve shipping, over MO and on to IL to kick off the fall planting season. I'm leaning just a touch west of OFCL.
This is near Baton Rouge..all is good now but some flooding is forecast.
I should be made an Aunt once again before the day is through..best of luck to my 1/2 sister:)
Niece was born, 8lb 14oz. Off to see her.

Hope Leslie strengthens & turns soon...
Most my family is holed up just east of that evacuation over the Tangipahoa Dam near McComb. They lost power yesterday & was on generators. Can't get a hold of them today. Land-line seems out.
Here's Leslie~
Wow!
Thanks for the tune! Came by to see if you'd hear from the family. Glad they are okay. Slidell looked pretty scary from where I'm sitting!
Congrats on the new niece!
Rob~ I haven't heard from anyone. They should be okay though. Niece was cute..
Wab~ That surge is nothing to mess around with. Kirk being a fish storm is part of what makes him so cute..
Sorry, didn't look at the date on post 305.
Okay, keeping them in my thoughts. Let me know.
I've got a halo around the sun here. Took pics to upload later.
Finally got that weak tornado up I saw on my trip. About 2 mins after the pic it stopped twisting & opened up into a rain shower.
Yes was great to hear from the "swampdawg" :)
Kirk is really cute!
Again without internet, checking in from store computer today. Dang, we are dangerously dependent on being able to connect via cyberspace!!! Hubby and I are down with a bad flu, had to start antibiotics :(
Hoping September will bring good things for us all!
Just in case I can't get online Sunday, an early wish:
WHITE RABBITS WHITE RABBITS WHITE RABBITS!
Hate to see that you guys are sick.
Wishing you get well soon!
Love your blue moon. Manipulated or not, it's cool! I'm going to try to get a look at it tonight, if it doesn't cloud back over. I noticed last night that it was almost full.
Tuesday, when you needed an ark to get out of town (or a kayak) the girls at work didn't believe me when I told them that the rain was from Isaac.
"But he's headed for New Orleans."
"Yeah, but we're getting that breakaway band of rain."
Had to show them on the radar.
Thought I'd never get home. There's a link on my blog to some pics. Kayakers paddling through the City Market, stalled cars, etc.
It was a mess but it did drain off and the roads were clear in time for the morning commute. Darn it.....
Wab~ according to NOAA no he didn't. Dvorak seems to think he made it to cat 3. I'll give him an outside chance of an upgrade post season.
Thanks for reminding me to share that blue moon I found. I think they snatched it from the gallery for being manipulated..
Bug~ I give all the credit for the blue moon to katy99780. Sometimes manipulated has it's place:)
Too bad about work. I'll have to see your pics.
Phish couch tour starts tonight for the three day Labor day run in Denver. Trey did a radio show this morning about it.
You still here?
I have a question.
How to you know when sweet potatoes are ready without grubbing around the roots? Mine have been growing from about late April/early May. No sign of vines dying yet. In fact almost just the opposite.
I grubbed around in late/mid July and found 2" swollen roots. I am too paranoid to grub around much more.
Any helpful hints?
Somebody call for an Ark?
Yeah, Isaac had VERY wide ranging effects!
Weird weather all around.
Glad you are okay!
Color me skeptical.
So I think the answer to your question depends on where you live. If you get a frost every year best harvest time would be right before the first hard frost...keep a close eye on your forecasts. If you are hungry sooner, a little gentle poking around to check for a couple larger tubers probably won't hurt much...jmho.
