I decided this might be a good topic...I wish I had the bucks for some of these...I might have to improvise as always...LOL

Here is one that I am working on to run lights on a Jon boat to flounder with. I have a few old engines that need carb. work that I obtained for free. Alternator not an issue for me.

Funny you say that. I also have an 18 horse mower engine that I thought about making a welder from. I would not use the Delco CS144 as the article refers to. It has diodes that avalanche at around 36 Volts. Also the regulator package is made for spec apps. This was covered in the post though.

I plan on using a Leece Neville 2800JB. Its rated at 160 amps. With a stator change I can get 250 amps at 3200 RPM rotor speed. It has many more options on diodes, and I can change them myself, and I have already made a reostat that can control Voltage for this type of unit.

What ever you all do. DO NOT install this type of welder on a vehicle made with a PCM, BCM etc., transient V's will fry them!
