Weather or Not!

Indian Summer In Michigan

I guess that's what we're having! The forecast calls for warm temps today and tomorrow . . . in fact, some parts of the state could see 70F tomorrow! Today should be decent with partly sunny conditions becoming mostly cloudy by late today. Then we could see some rain overnight but the temps will remain mild. Tomorrow will start out rainy, then become partly sunny as the day progresses. At least that's what our forecasters are telling us. Rain or not, I'll enjoy the warmer temps while they last.

I plan to get some yard work done today . . . possibly put away the hoses and yard equipment, and mowing the lawn for the last time isn't out of the question. We finally had the boat winterized and have to pick it up today.

I'm not sure if our colors are at their peak yet or not. We do have a lot of color but not all of the trees have turned yet. Some are still pretty green. I'm just hoping that winter doesn't descend on us suddenly like last year. I've heard that we're supposed to have a rather mild winter due to El Nino but only time will tell.

OUR FORECAST:
Today
Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of light showers after 8 am. Highs 59 to 63. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph...becoming light and variable. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tonight
Cloudy. A chance of sprinkles during the evening...then a chance of light drizzle or rain. Lows 46 to 50. Light and variable winds. Chance of rain 30 percent.

Wednesday
Cloudy through mid morning...then clearing. A chance of light rain during the morning. Highs 65 to 69. Light and variable winds...becoming south 5 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.

A Very Wet Autumn

Today we just returned from an 11 day camping trip up at Platte River Campground near Beulah, MI. We had 4 dry days out of the 11 that we were there. On the first day we experienced a major November-type storm which began with thunderstorms the night that we arrived, and continued with moderate to heavy rains and wind gust up to 50 mph along the Lake Michigan shore. I braved the elements to get photos of the waves on Lake Michigan. I felt like those weather channel dudes that venture out on ocean beaches in an approaching hurricane. With the rain and wind pounding against my face and camera, I proceeded out on the shores of Lake Michigan near the Pte. Betsie lighthouse to get my shots. This is one of them.

I might add that during that storm our campground lost power for about 5 hours. But other areas were without power for 2-3 days. We were quite protected from the winds by the trees and hills surrounding us and for that I was happy. But we sure did hear the winds howling through the tree tops. But I guess you must expect some bad weather when you choose to camp in the fall. We still managed to have an enjoyable time.

Now that we're home, our weather hasn't improved any. It has been drizzling and very chilly just as it was up north. We hope to see some sun this weekend. Our forecast is as follows:

Friday Oct 9
Showers / High 52° / Low 35°
Chance Of Rain 50%

Saturday Oct 10
Partly Cloudy / High 56° / Low 36°
Chance Of Rain 10%

Sunday Oct 11
Partly Cloudy / High 49° / Low 33°
Chance Of Rain 10%
