Natural Antivirals and Immune System Boosters....... plus warnings
Posted by: hurricanecrab, 14:55 GMT le 05 novembre 2009 +2
Hiya Wunderfriends!

I've been involved in a whole herd of post-Paloma tasks, as well as the installation of a new solar array, and haven't been around much. It goes slow. (momentary mantra -- Break Apart, TS Ida, we've had enough.... break apart, TS IDA, we've had enough). I've missed you all a LOT! Things are getting more to where I should have time to spend with my WU family soon.

Okay. As many of you know, the wellness strategy of myself and m'Bride is to NOT take the H1N1 vaccine, as both of us believe the adjuncts are potentially more dangerous than the flu itself, even in light of some of the news snippets coming from Ukraine. It's a very personal choice, and I advise everyone to really research the flu, vaccine and potential side-effects and make your own decisions.

I have friends around the world who have had the Nasal Spray Vaccine -- charmingly called Monovalent Vaccine Live - Intranasal, and yet they were not informed prior to getting the spray that they were getting live flu virus, nor that there is a potential of "shedding" flu virus for up to 21 days thereafter.

Please make your choices based upon sound medical advice (that is, don't listen to me, find out for yourselves from your own trusted medical professionals).

Now, after than verbose preamble, let's get to the meat of this blog. I've compiled reports from PubMed - U.S. National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health regarding both "natural" compounds which studies indicate are at least somewhat effective as antivirals and/or immune system boosts, and "natural" compounds which studies indicate can be detrimental.

THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE. THIS IS DATA FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

One more note: Many of these compounds were chosen as they are thought to be effective in fighting the body's cytokine storm, an overproduction of a healthy person's immune response, which has been a factor of H1N1. more I think it's important to note that while many reports are consistent with a cytokine storm with H1N1, it hasn't been positively identified as yet, at least in the CDC or WHO. The samples sent on 02 Nov 09 from the Ukraine to labs in the UK may demonstrate that. I hope not; H1N1 is shaping up badly enough without it.

Still with me? Good.

COMPOUNDS (FOODS, HERBS) THAT MAY BE EFFECTIVE ANTIVIRALS
(each one linked to the applicable PubMed document)

St. Johns Wort
Vitamin E
Apple Juice
Astralagus Root
Resveratrol
Green Tea
Vitamin C
Vitamin D

COMPOUNDS (FOODS, HERBS) THAT MAY CONTRIBUTE TO CYTOKINE STORM

Honey
Chocolate
Echinacea

A note on Echinacea -- Echinacea is thought to be effective for regular seasonal flu. PubMed does not have a restriction regarding H1H1, however their findings suggest a possible increase in Cytokine Storm with Echinacea and H591 -- Avian Flu.

PubMed Home

For my friends who have indicated that I'm engaging in fear-mongering...... well... I love ya anyway. lol I just want more than anything for people I care about, those I don't, and those I don't know to really research, and choose your wellness strategy before the event is upon you, and your choices are limited. H1N1 is now entering into the second wave, the winter wave. It's unknown at this point if it is severe as feared; it IS known that it has that potential, particularly if it [has or will] mutate.

Be safe, be well, be happy!

{{{Crab}}}}

Been missing you and d'Bride a lot!
Good to hear from you again.

Thank you for the information, good stuff.

Been trying to figure it out for myself and what I will do.

I get the regular season flu shot, it is a dead virus..
I am a solid beliver in getting the
yearly flu shot, it works for me when i get one; and twice I wasn't able to get one and I got sick.

I don't think I would want to take a vacine with a live virus.

Things have been so busy with me and my tribe, Grandchild #5 should arrive anytime between this weekend and Thanksgiving...another boy.

Hope to see you around more often.

Good luck on all your projects
and I would love to come here to read the information you post about the H1N1 flu...
I am very interested in getting good information.

Take care,
Gams

Hey Crabie, I totally believe in what you are saying. Believe it or not I have never had the flu. Have always been around it. My firm belief is in healthy eating and I always try to fix fresh healthy food. (so ok, I try) The H1 N1 is extremely scary for children and if I had a young child I would read and make hopefully a good decision. One of my friends in Sarasota's grandchild has the swine flu and she is sooo sick. Now the Bisbane Flu and the Swine Flu merging is not good. We also may see a mutation that could be worse.

Oh well, I guess if you work for Goldman Sachs you have no problem getting the vaccine. They seem to have more than our hospiatals. Not a good situation.

Hope you and Mrs. Crab stay away from the flu. Good to see ya back. Glad you finally getting your home back to normal.

Crab! Nice to see you around :)
The whole vaccinate or don’t vaccinate isn’t really an issue as we don’t have any vaccinations available- I decided to get the kids done- my 8 year old tends to get pneumonia every time she gets the flu and the 4 yr old is allergic to most antibiotics- so far they’ve had one flu clinic-only for high risk groups (ie the kids) - opened the phones up at 9 am to take appointments- I tried several times to get through- finally got through a little after 10:30 and got a message that all 800 apts had been filled already
but at least now I know I tried- would have felt guilty if I had not and they got really sick

scarlett- you misunderstood! From the cytokinestorm link:

The cytokine storm is an inappropriate (exaggerated) immune response that is caused by rapidly proliferating and highly activated T-cells or natural killer (NK) cells. These cells are themselves activated by infected macrophages. The cytokine storm must be treated and suppressed or lethality can result.

so chocolate is something that can CONTRIBUTE to the cytokine storm. Stay away from chocolate, honey, and echinacea, according to Crab's gathering of data.

In a cytokine storm, the body's immune system goes into complete panic mode. It doesn't work effectively, it uses up all available resources, and can cause major and lasting damage to organs.

Ok, now I'm not telling everyone to go dump all their chocolate into the river. Just be informed and make the best personal decision.

CRAB!!!! We've missed your words'o'wisdom. SO GOOD to see you with a fresh blog. Much love to you and Bride.

any questions about flu testing, feel free to ask. ♥♥

and a little more since I live this subject ten hours a day...

I wholeheartedly AGREE with OGal- eat healthy. If it comes from a cellophane bag, don't eat it. Yep. We live such rushed lives as it is, and it's so easy to grab a candybar or some chips from the machine...NO!!!

Eat something healthy. Carrots. Apples. Yogurt. And if that makes you go eck...then pretend it's medicine.

Would you rather eat an apple and be healthy, or be sick as a dog (or pig) and popping Tamiflu's down your throat?

Your body will aappreciate it. So will your clothes, your family, and your co-workers.

(crab's gonna ban me if I don't get outta the pulpit)

Hi Crab and Bride,
So nice to see you again. I have missed you and it was a real treat to see you post.

Thanks for the collection of info on the pandemic flu. No vaccine for me, although I know it could be a very difficult decision if one had responsibility deciding for others. I'm having some resveratrol now. (how do you make that winking "emotocon?"

I hope you are continuing to recover nicely from the P storm and hope the latest I storm does not cause you any trouble. Of course, hoping no one has to deal with tropical trouble.

Huri and aqua... Are pharmed pills anything like pharmed fish?
:)

Add me to the list of those who stay away from the dispensary. No flu shot. And Echanacia makes me puke. Good to know about the link with hyper-immune response. Probably antivirals would make me puke. Can't imagine having flu and even feeling like eating anything, even chocolate. I'm banking on the fact I was alive for 1957 flu pandemic to help me out here. Don't really remember it but I do remember the 1976 swine flu panic. I wonder sometimes if that isn't why this new strain H1N1 is hitting younger people harder. Some of the older population has been exposed to similar strains and/or immunized in 1976-slightly different strain that time around, but still could help.

I think each person needs to handle flu in the way that feels best to him/her. Do what your body and instinct tell you is best. And WASH YOUR HANDS! Don't put them near your eyes, nose, or mouth.

That being said, Hi crabs!

Heya Auburn I definately believe that the intranasal is the safer of the two, since it is not listed as containing squalene and other potentially dangerous adjuncts. You're a responsible adult, and are mindful of the possibility of shedding virus for some time after you've gotten the vaccine. OMG. Did I just accuse Auburn of being a responsible adult? lol j/k

Heya {{Emms}} Glad you all are getting things put back together there ;o) Still many roofs (how come it isn't rooves?) in process here, but overall things are looking good.

Hey {{Gams}} My Mom and her husband also get the regular season shot every year. No know side-effects that they've experienced. I'm pretty certain it contains small amounts of thimerisol, but not squalene. I thought it interesting that legeslation was rushed through in the U.S. to absolve vax manufacturers of liability.

Hiya {{Amy}} Would you believe me if I said I have a cartoon in the works? LOL! Might even actually put it on paper in 11.74 soon comes. Deja Vu..... I was saying almost the exact same thing ummmmm........ one year ago today.

{{Foxx}} Flintstone vitamins? Tell me the truth, now........ do you always bite their little heads off first? hahahaa that's what I'd do, otherwise what's the point of eating them? Are there little Dinos too?

Amy, c'mon...... Atkins diet?? You???

{{Ogal}} I completely agree, although I do think the vax has to be weighed against each person's individual requirements. As I said, my goal is not to talk people into not getting the jab, just to raise some awareness and to figure out what's best for you. My own autoimmune system has done a good job in the past...... when I choose to "pay" it for its job by eating properly. I'm a big fan of green tea.

{{Scarlett}} I thought the same thing when I read 'Chocolate'! In fact, that's why I did a search for it on PubMed. The article suggests that it might bolster a cytokine storm (bad). Regrettfully, I found no positive antiviral benefits listed for beer. ;o(

Hiya {{Gypsy}} It's a tough thing to call in regard to children. I completely understand where you're coming from, and glad that I don't have to make such important decisions.

{{Doggie}} I'm glad to be back! Thanks much for your post; you said it much better than I could've. I still haven't read a positive, accredited, source that indicates a cytokine storm has been identified in H1N1 victims, however the spotty info coming from the Ukraine outbreak strongly suggests this to me, which is what prompted this blog entry. I'll be picking your brain for certain ;o)

haha! Doggie, I'd never ban you, silly! yep, eat healthy, perhaps stock up on some things that might help with processing the flu, and avoid people. For us hermits and foilheads, the latter is just SOP. lol I've read (but not confirmed via citation) that some of the Tammiflu is on the cusp of expiring also. I want to know when we decided as a species to take a beneficial fruit (star anise) and refine it down into a compound with possible side-effects. Star anise shortage, anyone?

LOL {{Huri}} Yes, resveratrol in moderation, of course, and never before 12:00 (somewhere). ha I'm still watching Ida. I don't trust the interaction between it and the remenants of Invest 96. Current models point to the Gulf, and that upsets me. I hope we're all watching it. So far so good here ;o) Feel free to express yourself about pharma as you see fit, just keep an eye out for black SUVs.

Huri, yes, from what I understand, the D3 is metabolized more directly into the bodily chemical processes that regular D, but plain D being better than no D. hmmmmm. That could almost be a rap song. NEVERmind.

Interesting that we call it vitamin D anyway, when it's really more of a hormone.

LMBO Rainman! Don't be surprised if you get a care package of melted chocolate goodies. Sorry, I'm going to have to keep the carob rice krispie treats for further emperical study and quantification. I have standards, you know.

LOL Auburn! Nobody said ANYthing about dangerous seafood. hahaha (although I DO have a someone dubious bottle of el cheapo caviar that I used ONCE when I was making sushi... it tasted like fish bait. Don't ask how I know that.)

Quoting Rainman32:
Yeah Aub, good! I'm not a fan of seafoodstuffs myself.. yeap, between us we will keep everyone safe!

Whew, It's a labor of Love%u2665
Keep up the good fight!

Foxx, that sounds great! Avoid noticibly ill people please. hmmmmm. I wonder if I should invent a personal bumper that a person wears for anti-jostle protection in crowds. Where's Collins and R&D when you need them? I'm visualizing something worn over the shoulders with a dual bumper ring, like the cars. Whaddaya think? over the top?

Heya {{Barefoot}} LOL! pharmed fish...

I think you're right..... those of us born earlier were exposed to more pathogens over the years, and are thus more resistant. To me, the young folks that are being hit harder seem to be consistent with the cytokine storm. That was present with the 1918 flu as well, and there is more than a bit of evidence to suggest that H1N1 are 1918 are extremely improbably similar or closer. Yes, wash you hands! I think we touch our faces MUCH more than we realize. Ever want to test that out? Put a couple of rubber bands around your fingers (not tight) for a couple of hours. When you touch your face, the difference in texture reminds you that you're doing it.

Hello back! ;o)

LOL Scarlett! I swear, I did the very same thing when I read chocolate. I was very happy about it, and I was the one doing the research!! In the interest of science, I intend to conduct a systemic analysis of antiviral trends in relation to consumed adult beverages. hmmmmmmm. Now that's twice I've eluded to that and both of them in replies to you. People are going to start talking. hahaaaaa!

Hiya Crab - wow it has been a long time!

I'm not getting the vaccine either. I haven't had a flu vaccine since 1975 and I think I've had the flu twice since then. I eat as healthy as I can (I do indulge once in a while), wash my hands lots, exercise pretty darn regularly (I didn't see that in your suggestions - daily exercise is a BIGGIE!), I'm starting to use a Neti Pot, I drink coffee (anything hot will kill the bacteria in your throat), and I get plenty of sleep. I try not to stress about things, as I think stress will lower your immune system faster than just about anything.

My daughter's boyfriend got the swine flu and recovered in just a few days. Probably the biggest thing that should be said about it is that for MOST people, that's all it will be.

If you are very young or have underlying medical conditions, THEN it might hit you hard. We'll certainly hear about the many that will get very sick and require hospitalization and those that die, but we'll never hear about the thousands that got it and recovered. Such is the world.

Hiya!
good thing there's a virus filter on this screen. I've been fighting what I hoped was "only a cold" for a week now and am about to declare it the flu... so I did a bit of searching for antiviral foods. (man, that no chocolate thing... I also found something that suggested that sugar is bad for the immune system... hello, Dr. Atkins! lol)

http://www.foodscout.org/benefits/antiviral.html

Coconut oil
garlic
dandelion
cranberries
mango

I knew about garlic and usually add it to chicken soup (which, although is not listed, I still believe in) but didn't know about mango. making a shopping list now. I'll have to send someone since I'm not going out until I am over this.

Okay... time to go back to bed.
:o)
huh? Ida?? wtheck??
Oh, I am sooo not up to fighting a hurricane too.

Hi Crab, I don't get flu shots. I use to when I was working as it was mandatory in the Hospital but since moving here, I have not. I may catch a cold in the fall but that is the extent of my sick days. I don't see any benefit in my case of getting the shot. I, like you prefer to use preventative medicine.

Have a safe and happy day old friend.

Here is something to make you smile...

THIS IS THE FLU SQUARE DANCE. ITS GOOD.

Choose your partners, one and all,
Aspirin, Advil, or Tylenol!

Now fling those covers with all you've got,
One minute cold, the next minute hot,

Circle right to the side of the bed,
Grab the tissues and Sudafed.

Back to the middle and don't goof off;
Hold your stomach and cough, cough, cough.

Forget about slippers, dash down the hall,
Toss your cookies in the shower stall.

Remember others on the brink;
Wash your hands; wash the sink.

Wipe the doorknob, light switch too,
By George, you've got the it, you're doing the Flu!

Some like it cold, some like it hot;
If you like neither, get the shot.

Am thinking Spike, as the leader of this mission's troops was just enough of a scary faced force to do the trick! We on the N. Gulf coast thank our Rock brethren for the help. No crustacean legs were harmed in this battle.

With thanks,
Luis, of the lowly chameleon regiment.

LOL {{Doggie}} Calendar? We doan need no stin-king calendar. I also stopped wearing a watch about ten years ago. I admit to looking at the clock on my cell phone occasionally. I'm pretty sure it's Thanksgiving ;o)

{{Karen}} yep, it's a very personal choice. There are conditions where the benefit/risk of taking the jab are important to weigh. It's my hope to not influence anyone, just provide some tools for consideration

{{M~E}}}}}}! Dangitall, I'm just not paying attention, am I? Hopefully, what you recovered from was H1N1, so you'd then be set, unless tha' dang thing mutates radically. Reports from the Ukraine and surrounding areas, as well as Canada indicate a possible mutation.

{{Foxx}} ;o) When do we get to call it a hurricane year? 2010? I'm still watching. I'm tired of being sneaked up on lol

{{Alley}} LOL! Swing your microphages, do-si-do

{{Auburn}} Hold still, it's just a hug f'hecksake lol I'm taking photos as I install it..... will probably post them. It'd probably be more useful if I posted photos of the way I ended up rebuilding the PV frame four times -- then everyone would know what NOT to do. lol

LOL CODE! That's funny...... I must've been back here since the 6th, as I know I read that about Spike and laughed then ;o) I'm just a sneak, that's what I am

Thank you Ally.... I appreciate the Veteran's Day salute, my friend.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Thanks Gams ;o) Yes, always much to be thankful for. I'm in the throes of cooking right now. Not a holiday here, but it is for our household.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Rays! Say hey to de gang for us, okay?

Gotta go save the pukka pies from certain incineration.

Happy Day everyone, whether it is Thanksgiving for you or not, there are still blessings to be counted.

Superstar CBS Reporter Blows the Lid Off the Swine Flu Media Hype and Hysteria

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/11/24/Superstar-CBS-Reporter-Blows-the-Lid- Off-the-Swine-Flu-Media-Hype-and-Hysteria.aspx

Sharyl Attkisson is a CBS News correspondent and investigative reporter. She’s covered Capitol Hill since February 2006 and has been a Washington-based correspondent there since January 1995. She was also part of the CBS news team that received the Edward Murrow Award in 2005 for overall excellence. Additionally, she received an Outstanding Investigative Journalism Emmy in 2002 for a series on the Red Cross.
In case you didn't realize it, Sharyl Attkisson is the investigative reporter behind the groundbreaking CBS News study that found H1N1 flu cases are NOT as prevalent as feared.

In fact, they’re barely on the radar screen.
How did this startling information come about, and why is the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) painting a different picture entirely? I spoke directly with Sharyl Attkisson to find out.
Two Videos
The first video is an amazing interview I did with Sharyl about ten days ago and what the bulk of this article is based on.
The second video is brand new and was done at noon yesterday in which I was videoed in the CBS studio in downtown Chicago. Sharyl was gracious enough to invite me to be on with Dr. Bernadine Healy, the former director of the NIH. We both were in agreement about the swine flu and opposed to the stance the CDC is taking, but we had different views on mammograms.
Please also watch the second interview as it is very entertaining.
Getting Started on the Swine Flu Trail
Ms. Attkisson says:
“The reason I looked into this is a couple of months ago, I got tips from three or four different segments of public healthcare, with folks telling me the CDC has recommended that they go ahead and stop testing for and counting swine flu cases.
Each different entity that contacted me was concerned, thinking that this should not be happening. They really felt that it was necessary for the swine flu to continue to be tracked in some details. So I went about trying to find out why this decision was made and what the ramifications would be.
… I started by contacting the CDC and the HHS and asking some basic questions. I felt like I pretty much got stonewalled with some of the information I really needed to get at, especially what I needed from the states data, and information on the rationale behind this decision to stop counting and testing for swine flu.”
Because the CDC did not initially respond to Attkisson’s requests, she contacted all 50 states directly, asking for their statistics on state lab-confirmed H1N1 prior to the halt of individual testing and counting in July. She also asked states, one by one, to help explain the rationale behind the CDC’s decision to stop tracking H1N1 cases.
Attkisson continues:
“One of my good sources within the government said to me that they’re either trying to, in his opinion, over-represent the swine flu numbers or under-represent by not counting them anymore. He said, “You need to find out which it is.” And so to find out which it might be, I really wanted to see the data that the CDC had at the time it made the decision to quit counting the cases.”
What Her Investigative Report Reveals
If you listen to most media outlets and even to government agencies, you get the impression that virtually every person who has visited their physician with flu-like symptoms in recent months has H1N1, with no testing necessary because, after all, there's an epidemic.
We are all being led to believe that every case diagnosed as “swine flu” or even as “flu-like illness” is, in fact, swine flu.
But Attkisson’s investigation revealed a very different picture right from her first contact with individual states. She explains:
“Across the country, state by state, they were testing [for H1N1] until CDC told them not to bother. They were testing, in general, the cases most likely to be believed to have been swine flu based on a doctor’s diagnosis of symptoms and risk factors such as travel to Mexico.
These special cases were going to state labs for absolute confirmation with the best test -- not the so-called “rapid testing,” but the real confirmation test.
Of those presumed likely swine flu cases out of approximately every hundred of what was tested, only a small fraction were actually swine flu. In every instance, perhaps the biggest number of cases that were swine flu was something like 30%. The smallest number was something like 2% or 3%.
Maybe there’s one state where it was just 1%.
The point is, of the vast majority of the presumed swine flu cases recognized by trained physicians, the vast majority were not flu at all. They weren’t swine flu or regular flu; they were some other sort of upper respiratory infection.”
And here is the clincher that it seems the CDC just doesn’t want the American public to know …
“The CDC explained that one of the reasons they quit counting was because of all the flu that’s out there, most are swine flu. Well, that’s true. Most of the flu that was out there was indeed swine flu, but they failed to say that most of the suspected flu was nothing at all. And I think that’s the caveat the public just didn’t know,” Attkisson explains.
She gives even more striking examples of the numbers the investigative report revealed. For instance:
In Florida, 83 percent of specimens that were presumed to be swine flu were negative for all flu when tested!
In California, 86 percent of suspected H1N1 specimens were not swine flu or any flu; only 2 percent were confirmed swine flu.
In Alaska, 93 percent of suspected swine flu specimens were negative for all flu types; only 1 percent was H1N1 flu.
Freedom of Information and Getting the Truth Out
It is not easy for journalists to access this type of information, and they often have to wait weeks, months or even years for information from the CDC and the FDA -- information that is readily available and supposed to be clearly public.
Attkisson expands on the difficulties she faced in trying to get simple data regarding swine flu cases in the United States:
“They [CDC’s public affairs] quit communicating with me when I pressed on why I couldn’t get certain information. They just wouldn’t answer my emails anymore. So I had to file a Freedom of Information request, which is usually my last choice because I know I was going into a deep black hole many times and I’ll never get an answer.
But in this case, I got an interesting response on October 19 from the CDC when I had asked for some simple, public documents that would have been easy for them to obtain too quickly.
Journalists are allowed to ask for expedited processing of their Freedom of Information request because, for obvious reasons, they’re working on a story that may have public impact or be of public interest. The agencies are not supposed to use the Freedom of Information Law to obstruct or delay the release of this information.

This may be the first time I was denied that expedited processing from Freedom of Information that we’re entitled to as members of the press; a letter from HHS or Health and Human Services (the CDC is under HHS) said to me that one of the reasons they’re denying my expedited processing is because this is not a matter of “widespread and exceptional media or public interest.”
In other words, the CDC doesn’t think these questions about swine flu prevalence and these other things that we’ve been asking are, at least in their opinion in this letter, not a matter of widespread and exceptional media or public interest.”
Yet, while the CDC expressed that questions about swine flu prevalence were not a matter of widespread media or public interest, the President had declared the swine flu a national public health emergency!
The inconsistencies at the CDC are nearly incomprehensible.
The Ramifications of the Swine Flu Policy
According to Attkisson’s CBS News study, when you come down with chills, fever, cough, runny nose, malaise and all those other "flu-like" symptoms, the illness is likely caused by influenza at most 17 percent of the time and as little as 3 percent! The other 83 to 97 percent of the time it's caused by other viruses or bacteria.

So remember that not every illness that appears to be the flu actually is the flu. In fact, most of the time it's not.

Curiously, the CDC still advises those who were told they had 2009 H1N1 (and therefore should be immune to getting it again) to get vaccinated unless they had lab confirmation.

But because very few people have actually had a lab-confirmed case of H1N1 (and in most cases those people told they had swine flu probably did not), this means nearly everyone is still being advised to get the swine flu vaccine.
Attkisson has been one of the few to speak out against this flawed system and point out the serious ramifications that come when a public health agency is secretive about their health data.
Attkisson says:
“From a public and journalistic standpoint, I believe the mistake comes when you don’t fully disclose to the public as you go and discover the mistakes. Try to disclose and fix things that come up.

Everybody understands that there isn’t a perfect system, but I think you need to be upfront with them, explain what you’re doing, and explain what you’re discovering. If you’ve made a mistake or you feel like you need to correct something, say that, too, but don’t just try to keep information from the public.”

I couldn’t agree more, and Attkisson’s CBS News report has stood out like a bright light of truth among all the clouds of misinformation.
If you’d like to learn more about the report and its findings, you can read all the details in the past article CBS Reveals that Swine Flu Cases Seriously Overestimated.

Alternative Medicine / Global TherapiesWorld Research Foundation
The Art of Medicine; Its Destruction by Prescription

By WRF in Alternative Therapies

At one time, long ago in our history, medicine was considered an art and not just a profession. To be a physician was a noble and sacred task. During the time of the ancient Greeks we find sacred temples of healing and the physician priests accomplished wonderful and profound healings.
In more modern times, if we consider the 1500s modern compared to 300 BC, we read the words of Paracelsus talking about the sacredness of the medical profession and his thoughts regarding the true art of medicine and the sacred obligation of being a physician.
Paracelsus stated, “The physician comes from nature, from nature he is born; only he who receives his experience from nature is a physician, and not he who writes, speaks, and acts with his head and with ratiocination’s aimed against nature and her ways”. “If you apply an art, let it be only in the light of nature, and not in superficial action.”
“It must not surprise the physician that nature is more than his art. For what can equal the forces of nature? He who has no expert knowledge of them has not mastered the art of medicine. In one herb there is more virtue and force than in all the folios that are read in the high colleges and that are not fated to live long.”

“Every physician must be rich in knowledge, and not only of that which is written in books; his patients should be his book, they will never mislead him…and by them he will never be deceived. But he who is content with mere letters is like a dead man; and he is like a dead physician. As a man and as a physician, he kills his patient.”
Paracelsus spelled out what the best qualifications of a good surgeon are:

* A clear conscience,
* Desire to learn and to gather experience,
* A gentle heart and a cheerful spirit,
* Moral manner of life and sobriety in all things,
* Greater regard for his honor than for money,
* Greater interest in being useful to his patient than to himself,
* He should not practice self-abuse,
* He must not act without judgment,
* He must not accept belief without understanding,
* He must not boast of knowing anything without experience,
* He must never boast or praise himself,
* He should know all the vulnerary herbs,
* He should know all the essences,
* He should know the articulations of nature and all her properties,
* He should know all the tissue-forming remedies,
* He should know all the essences.

Paracelsus also had a very interesting thought when he stated, “the longer the book, the less the intelligence; the longer the prescriptions, the poorer their virtue. Therefore each physician should achieve great things by means of small things.”
Paracelsus achieved many wonderful and incredible results during his life. But at all times he considered medicine a sacred task and the practice by a physician to be the noblest of all activities. In summing up his theories he believed that the physician should be a good listener and observer. Listen to your patient; listen to nature who speaks to those who humbly come looking for answers.
During Paracelsus time, the early 1500s, he was very upset with what doctors were prescribing to their patients, which he stated were actually worse than the patients original problem. He also was very much against the apothecaries that loaded the medicines with deadly or life threatening ingredients and at the very least the medications caused all sorts of problems for the patient. It’s 2007, I wonder how far we’ve come from those middle ages?
Throughout the years, The World Research Foundation News has always tried to share positive and uplifting cover stories. But this issue is going to be different. We are absolutely shocked at what medicine has fallen to. It is not an art, it really is not a science any more, it is a deadly game of Russian Roulette! Why? Because we have now accepted therapies that are more harmful and deadly than the original medical problem that we had when we began the therapy. This is absolutely and clearly the fault of the pharmaceutical industry and its capture of the medical profession. I would now like to list some of the pharmaceuticals that are offered in our magazines and television commercials. Let’s look at what they are used for and what some of the side effects are. I will be taking the information directly out of their own advertising.
“ADVAIR: Does Asthma sometimes stop you? Advair, the first and only preventative asthma product…” Here are the side affects listed for this product for asthma; Some people may experience increased blood pressure, heart rate, or changes in heart rhythm…possible side effects from studies with patients, upper respiratory infection, sinus infection, hoarseness/voice change, yeast infection of the mouth, bronchitis, cough, headaches, diarrhea, gastrointenstinal flu, swollen glands, muscle injuries, allergy symptoms, swelling of the mouth or throat, agitation, vaginal pain”, and more. This came out of Readers Digest, January 2004, pg. 11-13.
“ROZEREM: When you can’t sleep you can’t dream. Fortunately there’s a sleep aid like no other. Adverse Reactions and most commonly observed Adverse events in Phase 1-3 trials: Dizziness, nausea, fatigue, headache, insomnia, upper respiratory tract infection, depression, and more.” This was taken from Readers Digest, September 2007, pg. 19-21. It seems that these type of reactions are just as bad and will cause more problems then the persons original difficulty!
“PLAVIX, Help stop a clot before a clot stops you. Adverse events in Plavix Patients; chest pain, influenza like symptoms, pain, fatigue, edema, hypertension, headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, diarrhea, nausea, back pain, depression, rhinitis, rash and other skin disorders…” This was taken from TV Guide, Aug. 27-Sept. 2, 2007, pg. 13-14.
This is just disgusting!
Why are the medications that are being offered to people with medical conditions exposing them to these potential adverse effects that will certainly mean the patient is going to need another medication for the new difficulty. And this perhaps is the reason why we find ourselves in the medical system that we have. More problems, more drugs, more MONEY for their products.
“REQUIP for Restless Legs Syndrome. Requip is the first FDA-approved treatment for RLS…Requip may cause you to faint, feel dizzy, nauseated, or sweaty when you stand up. Also tell your doctor if you or your family notices that you develop any unusual impulses or behaviors, such as pathological gambling or hypersexuality. Side effects include nausea, drowsiness, vomiting and dizziness. Hallucinations (unreal sounds, visions, or sensations) have been reported in patients taking Requip. Studies of people with Parkinson’s disease show that they may have an increased risk of developing melanoma.” This was taken from Readers Digest, July 2007, pg. 7-9.
“BONIVA; Builds bone density to help keep bones strong and healthy.” “Just one pill a month builds strong, healthy bones to help prevent fractures.” Now, let us take a look at their listed side effects. “ What are the possible side effects of Boniva? Pain or trouble swallowing (dysphagia), heartburn, ulcers in your stomach or esophagus, diarrhea, pain in extremities (arms or legs), dyspepsia (upset stomach), mild flu-like symptoms…rarely, patients have reported sever bone, joint, and/or muscle pain starting with one day to several months…serious jaw problems associated with delayed healing and infection…” This advertising was found in Reader’s Digest, July 2007, pgs. 43-45. The smiling, well-known actress that is in the advertisement should be ashamed of herself!
Virtually in all of the advertising, whether it be in print media or on the television, we see the happy smiling faces of the people just swallowing down these marvelous products. But what is really happening here? Do any of these pharmaceutical products really address the cause of the problem? Or are these products just masking the difficulty?
The analogy that comes to mind is how someone might address a difficulty that shows up in their automobile. When a red light or symbol appears on the dashboard it is a warning that something is not functioning properly with the car. It is a signal that there is a problem that is on the horizon, if not something that has already appeared.
Someone seeing this signal might approach it in two different manners. One manner is to take the car in for service or to try to discover what the problem might be. Another approach might be to just ignore what is taking place. Just ignore the light or symbol and just continue to drive. An easy way of choosing this direction is to just cover up the light or symbol with some tape or paper. We know what will happen with this approach.

This is what is taking place now in our medical approach to illness. These pharmaceuticals are not addressing the problem but masking the symptoms while placing people at risk for additional problems.
T
he watchdog for our medical safety is the FDA. What are they doing in allowing this type of medical therapy? Is medicine an art, or is it more dangerous than our health problem?
