Dr. Jeff Masters, 6 juillet 2015

Germany broke its all-time heat record on Sunday July 5, when the mercury soared to 104.5°F (40.3°C) at Kitzingen in Bavaria. An even higher reading of 105.4°F (40.8°C) was recorded at the University of Karlsruhe, but this is not considered an official station. Another Dry California Precipitation Season Draws to a Close

Christopher C. Burt, 30 juin 2015

Weather Historian, Weather Underground

The 2014-2015 precipitation season ended today (June 30th) and the drought continues unabated. Although the precipitation totals for the July 1-June 30 (2014-2015) period do not appear to be all that bad (generally 60-85% of average) this does not tell the whole story. A very wet December saved what otherwise would have been a catastrophically dry year. In fact, the past six months (since January 1st) have been one of the driest such periods on record for many locations, including San Francisco. Here are some details about the past rainy season and the current drought.

Ebola and Climate-Change Models

Dr. Ricky Rood, 29 juin 2015

Professor, University of Michigan

What the Ebola modeling example suggests is that the motivation and practice of modeling of complex systems is shared across many fields of scientific investigation. Smallmouth Smack Down: Six Lakes in Six Weeks! Part I, Lake Erie

Jim Root, 23 juin 2015

Professional Bass Angler

After spending my entire life chasing huge smallmouth in the Northeast, I picked six of the best fisheries and set out on a mission to see for myself which of those legendary bodies of water wear the crown for the largest and meanest smallmouth bass! My journey will take me to: Ontario, Champlain, Oneida, Simcoe, The St. Lawrence River, and to kick it off I went to a place that is often regarded as THE smallmouth fishery of the world, Lake Erie, and went out with my friend Larry Mazur, who is thought of by many in the Buffalo area as the smallmouth King in that area. If I told you we caught monster smallies you'd probably nod and say that's to be expected. That's what I expected. I knew it. I know Larry and how dialed in he is on that lake.

26-27 November 2014 Nor'easter

Zachary Labe, 25 novembre 2014

Northeast Weather Analyst

A low pressure will develop off the Southeast coast and move northeastward along the stalled front off the eastern seaboard. Precipitation will develop and expand across much of the Northeast by early morning Wednesday. Marginal cold air will limit the heaviest snow accumulations across inland locations along the foothills of the Appalachians. Most areas east of there will face slushy accumulations of less than three inches in addition to some rain.
