FRIDAY morning I headed west, then north at Evanston, Wyoming. Heading north took me into Utah. I could tell, as many signs advertised LAST CHANCE FOR REAL BEER. (3.2% there).
I got to BEAR LAKE, where I had not been before. Big lake. Never heard of it until then. Very nice area! I drove until I got to Garden City.
A metropolis of A-frames, neatly scattered on the hills above the lake. And I knew a golf course was there. Followed the GPS to a location up in the hills, unable to be seen until you get to the parking lot. The whole course is below, in a valley.
Bear Lake Golf Course. Nobody going out, and a great looking layout going up and down the hills.
Then I cut across Utah and got on I-84. Heading north into Idaho I drove through several nice rainstorms coming over the mountains. Slept in Burley, Idaho.
Saturday morning I was thinking golf again. Duh. One last round before a golf hiatus I would take while visiting my sister in Boise. I drove to Jerome where I knew there were several courses. I pulled into Jerome Golf Course. They were booked solid, but the guy behind the counter called 6 other courses looking for an opening for me. Unbelievable! But every course had a Saturday AM tournament going on. Eventually he got me out on the back nine, so it was all good.
Then to Boise.
Big day Sunday. First thing was ride a few miles on bicycles to the local racetrack. Cyber had laid a few bucks on the Preakness, and hit it. Twice. Very nice.
Then back along the Boise River to lunch. Eventually we got back home, then took a ride to Bruneau Dunes about an hour southeast of Boise. Blowing sand. It was pretty cool. The CYBERS have a nice dog who came along. The dog walked up the dune with us, then sat down to rest. In a couple minutes the blowing sand covered her rear paws and was getting worse.
Monday we went on another bike ride, this time downtown. We went to the state capitol, where we were able to go just about wherever we wanted. We went into the Senate chambers where we took turns standing at the podium as the others took pictures.
Then we took a ride to check out where GNU guy lives, when not in Dutch. Very nice!
Tuesday AM I was eastbound. Back southeast to Mountain Home, then head west on smaller roads.
Cruise along Craters of The Moon, miles of lava flows. Then on to Idaho Falls. Beautiful area. I checked out three golf courses, all very busy. I drove on to Jackson (Hole), Wyoming.
Driving out this morning, heading north toward Yellowstone, I climbed a ridge and popped out on top. Suddenly the entire range of The Grand Tetons is right in front of me. AWESOME.
I drove a couple more miles north and saw a sign to Jackson Hole Golf Club. I knew of the club. It has long had a great reputation as a top course in the USA. I just wanted to see a little of it. But what I saw was nobody there. Next thing I know I was playing it. It was high priced. The scenery was unbelievable (Tetons) and the course was OK. But it was all worth it.
Then I drove on, first north, then southeast at Moran. Right now I sit in blustery Riverton, Wyoming. 20-25 mph sustained winds. Nice area.
