Lil Snow for Chi/ Road Trip Blog
">

February 12, 2012 -
It's been a wonderful night watching the Grammy's so far.
Chicagoland is expecting just a bit of snow tomorrow night and into Tuesday; two inches and possibly more S. of I-80. Warmed up today to almost 40 here.
The rest of the week looks smooooth, like that Beach Boys get-together performance, and Adele!! (wow she nailed it) tonight.
Big plans ahead at the end of the month and first days of March. It's time--time--Time for a Road Trip! Going to Oklahoma to see our daughter, and taking the scenic route.
No real route decisions have been made, but we're pretty sure we're gonna trip Route 66! From Chi to OKC (as best we can, within logic ;)
Please, add thoughts, memories, stops you recommend (largest ball of twine...lol, etc...).
For sure there will be photos, and whackiness traveling with hubby and I, 1807 miles (round trip). And, of course, there will be weather, and weather related stops, among other things.
We will be attending the National Severe Weather Workshop for 3 of the days in Norman, too. This is not only an interest of mine, but is something related to my husband's job, as well. Not required, but voluntary extra education.
Again, add any ideas for travel. We are planning to stay in the Ozarks, on the way down and ??? On the way back. Soooooo, put your drivin songs on, get a full tank of gas and grab the sunglasses! Let's get ready to roll!

Yeah...for days I have been saying, this seminar was 'amazing' and I just can't say it any other way.
AMAZING!!! doesn't even begin to do those in Norman and SPC who put this seminar together, justice. Thank you all those in Norman who put together the NSWW!
As far as storms: We were acutely aware of ALL the storms active in the country during the seminar (we're weather geeks, duh)
and it weighed heavy in that room with an unwritten constant, painful look or sigh.
We all (even the speakers) silently tracked all the storms and felt the PDS heavily as if we were in weather jail.
We knew what was happening, though we had other subjects on the learning agenda...we were going over details of Joplin or May 24...true story. And THAT, was a good thing to learn by or to take time for...or to block out everything for. We really felt it was important to learn and share info, no matter what new outbreaks there are atm. We learn quick, but we do need just a bit of pow wow w/the indians or troops to learn even quicker.
Prayers up for Illinois and Indiana, Kentucky, and all others.
We are now in OKC for a day or two visiting our daughter, and had so much fun with her today.
We went the Paseo Art District; the Botanical ardens and Bricktown District
We have so enjoyed Oklahoma on the whole! Who knew??? lol
Soooooo many pictures of the trip coming soon (next week)...
TBC...
Did you see the SPC in action during the outbreak? I know what was going on was hard on everyone, but I know the people there had to focus on getting the message out, so they can save more lives!
Hope you had a good time with son and future DIL!
:)
Glad you are seeing some of OKC before you start toward home. Was a pleasure meeting you and hubby and spending time with you at the NSSW. Amazing it was - on all counts! Love what you said here about the storms going on while we were in meetings. Only word I could come up with was "surreal."
Will add my thanks to yours for all who planned and spoke at the workshop, many of whom might have been more torn than we were reviewing the past and looking toward the future in the midst of the ongoing severe weather.
I would also like to thank all the emergency managers in this country for the work they do. Keith Stammer (Joplin/Jasper County MO) whom you mentioned, and Steven Long (Bastrop County TX) brought tears to my eyes when they spoke. Emergency managers - "Amazingly" good people who are always on alert for potential incidents, and who have plans for action and set them in motion when incidents do occur.
Have a safe trip home, goil.
:)
BF!!! It was so wonderful to go to this conference with you and share all the knowledge they shared with us--in person. And, to have shared the words of the Emergency manager of Joplin at the conference.
We are still on the go, and spending another day in OKC. I don't have a lot of words yet to describe everything, but thanks for adding some of your words here!
Hubby said hi, lol! Gotta run again, hope this made sense, I'm writing really fast, bye!
Take care!
I was just about to load the raw, and some edited photos to photobucket (mostly raw). You'll see them because I know you subscribe. It's like watching slides from a trip, lol! But some are pretty cool, actually.
On a somber note:
I just turned on the news after our evening, and found out little Angel died.
OMG. As if our big hearts couldn't have been broken enough last year. Now another sweetheart family is lost and a sweet baby is taken.
In prayer, she is with her momma and her other lil chickodees, brothers and sister. Wrenches me in alligator tears again. Tears, tears in the heart, ripping it apart. RIP little Angel.
There are no words for the news of our communities in shock and recovery tonight and through the coming weeks. Except the words echoed from Joplin and Tuscaloosa, and, and, and all those who have come before you in storm: YOU ARE NOT ALONE. WE WILL BE HERE FOR YOU.
Night all ships. Tomorrow we are off toward home. It is a long trip, and we have to stop half way. We will stop in St. Louis (The Hill and then to Collinsville to hang our hat). Hubby wants to stop in Joplin after we leave OKC. We will, and we will say a prayer for them, and all those going through this nightmare now.
I am so glad it all went well - you learnt a lot, met new folks, and relaxed - a little.
Now have a safe trip home... the animals will be waiting for you :)
Hi,Jus,hope your trip home is a safe one.didn't know you were going to Norman for the spotter training. Shows you how much I pay attention. to everything written.Guy Thing!!!!Anyway, that sounds so cool and talk about coincedence, with all that was going on around the country at the same time.So I obviously it was AMAZING!!!
Look forward to seeing the pics when you get a chance to post.
Italian Dinner on 'the hill' in St. Louis was mmmmmm sooo good. Very well worth the 7 hour drive, hee hehee. More details on that when I catch up.
Homeward bound. Yes, Sandi, it will be nice to see the animals, and our own bed again (though these fluffy down pillows and hotel beds w/room service have been pretty nice, too)
Hi NEw. Will probably read your blog from the road. I have a lot, I MEAN a lot of pictures to go through. It will be a difficult thing. May just throw them all into a slide show again.
