This is a composite plot of the radar summary, echo tops, storm movement, TVS and MESO signatures and watch boxes. The radar summary is color coded by precip type. Greens, yellows and reds are rain. Pinks are mixed precipitation (freezing rain, sleet). Blues are snow. NOTE: Radar data is susceptible to a phenomena called anomalous propagation. This generally happens at night and appears as a area of 20 dBZ echos (darkest green) which is centered around each radar site and expands with time. To try and reduce the problem, low echo values near the radar sites have been removed.

Happy Noontime Everyone!

Firstly, I want to thank Jus, Pros, W/P, Bogon and Ally for leaving their Christmas greetings, on my previous Christmas blog, after my last holiday posting or response to other WU friends. Naturally, I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas filled with the love of close family and/or friends!!
................................................

Due to more freeze-ups and glitches on my previous blog, I had to create another December one which will hopefully last until, at least, New Year's Eve! I don't know if it's my computer, alone, doing it or if others are having problems with theirs or WU's blogs, but it sure is getting frustrating.

This morning has started out sunny and bright with a bit of nippiness in the air. At least, our overnight temps didn't dip into the teens again, although it looks like this Thursday morning, we'll have to add an extra layer of flannel to our current heavy-duty indoor winter garb. I'm thankful that, thus far this season, we've managed to escape from any serious snowfall or storms. It's so pleasant to look out my home office window and see green grass on the ground while wistfully wishing that spring was just within our grasp. Hopefully, the next three months will go as swiftly by as from September to December. My fragile aging bones can't seem to withstand any of our traditionally frigid and snowy New England winters anymore. Long gone are the days of my carefree childhood exuberance or zeal for shoveling out, making snow-forts, snowmen or endless frolicking outdoors while either sledding, tobogganing, saucering or ice-skating. It's all about maintaining some semblance of health and economics now. SIGH.

Nevertheless, the one thing I do wish for everyone this coming year, is for MUCH SAFER WEATHER ahead!! It's hard to overlook all the death and destruction that was caused in 2011 by historically devastating weather occurences. I'm still stunned by the fact that, after nearly 60 yrs, parts of central Massachusetts were once again ravaged by a tornado which cut a 20 mile long swath in late spring. Obviously, no particular region of our Country is safe from Mother Nature's wrath these days! Well, here's to fingers crossed for well preparedness, smart decisions made and prayers answered for better, safer times ahead for us all!

Hello Mass, echoing your wish for a much safer weather New Year. And, you have not been alone in your thoughts of all those who lost loved ones and endured torn up homes and or relatives/friends homes, businesses etc...I felt so much for them this Christmas, as you did. Candles lit for healing and yes, a much better New Year! Very nice 2012 graphic up there in the header. It says it all.

Also, hope Skye is right about the low and it doesn't get too bad by you. Enjoy the day!

Hello Mass,

So true, we do need a little break from so much really destructive weather around the world.

We need a little room to breath for a while.

Cannot belive it is almost a new year...
crazy how fast time flies by!!!
Happy New year!

Good Early Morning Everyone!

Yesterday was such an exhausting day that I didn't have much time to post or respond to your kind ones below. Thankfully, after a decent night's sleep, I feel more refreshed, focused and able to circumvent a few computer glitches to get online to my WU blog and others. Hopefully, in a few weeks, I can get these computer problems straightened out once and for all. Two months of these headaches are enough!

Weather-wise, the past couple of days have seen quite a contrast to the milder above average temps of November and parts of December. Happily, it appears that our region of Mass. may end the year on that same milder pleasant note before more seasonably arctic winter air ushers in the first Monday and week of 2012. BRRRRrrrr! Admittedly, we've been relatively spoiled recently, so I don't think I'm quite ready to kick off the New Year or winter with another ice cold blast quite yet! At least, there are still no signs of serious snowstorms currently heading our way which has been a real blessing compared to one year ago. Hopefully, this La Nina winter will be typically warmer and much milder than last. I still see the image in my head of a photo, taken last year, in a Methuen mall parking lot, of a large crane-like snowplow, sitting on top of a huge snowmound well near twenty feet, while trying to rid the lot of the giant snow fortress consuming it. Our local shoppers, retailers and, especially, homeowners certainly took a hit by, what seemed to be, two months worth of incessant heavy snowstorms. I think we all deserve a big reprieve ahead, not only here locally, but nationwide from any more historically destructive and costly weather elements!!

Sky ~ Nice to hear from you and thankfully, no, we didn't get bombed by that low that came through. A few towns and cities statewide did experience wind gusts of up to 55 mph and lost power. After the serious outage debacle cause by Oct. 29th's Nor Easter, many are getting fed up with the lack of priorities and lengthy delays caused from local power companies. Currently, they're still under investigation by our state's legislature as to how to get them to prepare better before another damaging Nor Easter, etc. hits.

Jus ~ I've read on your blog where you run into a bit of angst concerning continuing home/garage repairs/renovations. Hopefully, this will all straighten out by seeking someone more reputable and reliable to fix the problem. Hope you'll find the time again to spend an enjoyable New Years this weekend with, at least, a few of your loved ones and may that new job and commute work out really well for you! Let's hope that we all have a much safer or more tolerable year ahead!

Plap ~ I think you mistook my earlier posted sleeping Santa (which was a day after Christmas) as being me needing rest at that time. Yes, it's been a tiring week, but I'm not sick and still alive and kickin'. LOL! Hope you had a great Christmas and Boxing Day and will continue to take enjoyment in all those innovative home projects that have helped to make life easier for both you and your lovely Queen!

BullShoals ~ Glad to learn that you, too, had an enjoyable Christmas and feast! Like you and yours, my hubby and I overstuffed ourselves with turkey (our favorite) with all the fixings. We must keep it on the healthy side these days due to keeping a watchful eye on our cholesterol levels and such, but still enjoyed a tasty hearty meal.

A big congrats on your daughter's upcoming graduation from nursing school! To me, it's one of the noblest professions around. Hope that stuffing recipe is a hit during the celebration afterwards!

Weather-wise, we all hope there'll be a serious lack of snowfall around here this winter. It took ages for us to be able to tunnel out of our overwhelmed snowhut last winter! LOL!

Gamma ~ How time flies, indeed! I'm still amazed at how Nolan just turned two a short time ago and is growing by leaps and bounds. You certainly do have such a beautiful family and so glad you all got to spend Christmas together in Florida. May the weather ahead remain grand in your area as well as nationwide in the year ahead! I just learned last night, on the TV news, that this past year's total cost of nationwide weather destruction cost $52 Billion dollars. Most definitely something of all of us seriously think about in the days to tome.

Well, I need to update my blogheader's weather forecast for today till New Years. I figure I should wait till Jan. 1st before posting the weather forecast for the first full week of the New Year.

For those who must who must work today and/or Monday, hope the day runs smoothly. I shall return tomorrow night to, hopefully, celebrate and give New Years greeting to those online! Until then, be well, hang tough and I'll leave you with this apropos tune fitting for the end of a brutal year with the hope of a much better one ahead!
