The Weather Observer Who Is Not A Forecaster

My First Professionally Observed Thunderstorm

Didn’t get a good day’s sleep due to afternoon thunderstorms. I’m thinking that if thunderstorms are possible, I need to get to sleep earlier in my time off rather than going to be at 1 pm and waking up at 8 or 9 pm in order to avoid this. Besides, I’d get to watch the thunderstorms then, anyway.

When I drove to work (and I left early just in case), it was in the brunt of a thunderstorm). The rain poured heavily on the way to work, but luckily it slowed right when it was time to get out of my car. Lightning of every type was overhead, in the vicinity, and distant. Frequent. Beautiful and blinding. An awesome display of nature.

The one thing I haven’t seen with tonight’s storms is wind. In fact, it has been calm a few times during the night.

I am having fun on the the night of my first professionally observed thunderstorm. The first of many nights like this, I believe.
