All day yesterday the sun was veiled in white, with a kind of bright corona around it--if it hadn't been so warm I would have thought it was going to snow--looked just like a coming snowstorm. Today not even a veiled sun to be seen, all is just a uniform thick gray. But it's warm--50 degrees--and windy, and the last leaves are blowing around the street. Darkness is really starting to close in early now--by 3:15 the light is low and thickly golden across the landscape. Yes, definitely getting on time to think of hibernation!

It was 76 degrees Halloween afternoon, soupy with humidity, and the kids in their costumes could hardly stand up in the face of the high winds that were whirling leaves around. Very exciting! Now, two days later, this morning it's 40 degrees--barely--and the sky is a clear pale blue with a flush of rose still at the horizon. A kind neighbor blew and bagged about a ton of wet leaves off our yard yesterday, while I brought my husband home from the hospital (Yay!). ...

Electric Leaves

If you looked up anytime today, here in Cambridge, you saw the YELLOW and RED leaves absolutely electric and sizzling against the sky. A fabulous day. From a looker-upper's point of view.
