Houston’s never been this warm, this late in the year.

The mercury has reached 102 degrees this afternoon at Bush Intercontinental Airport, reports the National Weather Service, smashing the old record of 98 degrees set in 1912.

Houston has never recorded a temperature above 100 degrees after Sept. 12. Until today.

And then there’s this ugly statistic: with 102 degrees today this year has the “distinguished honor” of recording both the earliest 102 degree day (June 5) and latest 102-degree day in a calendar year.

Additionally, today’s was the city’s 45th 100-degree day, giving us 40 percent more this year than the next closest year, 1980.

The heat should begin to moderate a little bit by Thursday, but the next cool front looks to be at least 10 days away.

And rain? HAHAHAHA. You said “rain.” As if.

Heat Advisory, Tornado Warning and an Urban Stream, Advisory......from 2009

All in one day!Tornado touched down not far from where I live, North of Houston.Here you can see the Tornado that was confirmed by The police who spotted it. No reports of damage.Power out for a lot of people. Nice Thunderstorms last night and watching the GOM

Late yesterday afternoon and a pop up thunderstorm hit right over my area just north of Houston. It was very localized but intense.Power was out for about an hour. I got to break open my "Hurricane Box" (A big bin filled with flashlights, power strips, batteries and extension cords for the generator) and broke out the electric lantern. Hurricane Preparedness (all that other stuff that you need to make life easier)
