Houston’s never been this warm, this late in the year.

The mercury has reached 102 degrees this afternoon at Bush Intercontinental Airport, reports the National Weather Service, smashing the old record of 98 degrees set in 1912.

Houston has never recorded a temperature above 100 degrees after Sept. 12. Until today.

And then there’s this ugly statistic: with 102 degrees today this year has the “distinguished honor” of recording both the earliest 102 degree day (June 5) and latest 102-degree day in a calendar year.

Additionally, today’s was the city’s 45th 100-degree day, giving us 40 percent more this year than the next closest year, 1980.

Statistics through Monday. (National Weather Service)

The heat should begin to moderate a little bit by Thursday, but the next cool front looks to be at least 10 days away.

And rain? HAHAHAHA. You said “rain.” As if.

Heat watch: Today may be August’s hottestPlease, make it stop.Houston hit 103 degrees Wednesday and it could get hotter today. So far this summer, and alas it’s far from over, College Station, Huntsville, Conroe and Houston’s Hobby Airport have all beaten the record for the most 100-degree days in 1980.Bush Intercontinental, Houston’s official weather site, now has just four to break its record as well.Of course we’ve already set the record for most 100-deg...

No reports of damage.Power out for a lot of people. Generators were heard for the first time since Ike.It was as impressive as yesterday storms and much more wide spread. Now lets see what happens to these storms once they get out over the gulf. The water is about VERY warm and I believe that there will be ver...

Late yesterday afternoon and a pop up thunderstorm hit right over my area just north of Houston. It was very localized but intense.Power was out for about an hour. I got to break open my "Hurricane Box" (A big bin filled with flashlights, power strips, batteries and extension cords for the generator) and broke out the electric lantern. Gave me a good chance to go over the supplies one more time.Football and Marching band practice was in full swing as the storm po...

OK, first of all as anyone knows that has been in a Hurricane, you cant ever be prepared. Fact is, they are like nothing else and it takes a lot of thought, time and planning to get ready for one. Even then you will always find something you don't have or you did not think of. The common sense items can be found at any Hurricane Preperdness guide that most TV stations hand out at grocery stores. Here are a couple of rules:Rule Number 1: Evacuate if told soRule N...
