Evening, ycd ~ I hope your day was a good one. Interesting article that you linked. Context is important, no doubt about that, and historical context perhaps most of all.

But - this also is a day for celebration. Just in case the Geek Bunny didn't bring something for your basket, I brought you this. Happy Easter!

Evening Shore: I have said before: you set the bar fairly high. I appreciate that and wish to achieve it.
Someday.
For now I want this internet to provide anything and everything regardless of the date.

Hi, ycd! Anything interesting going on in your world? Sometimes I just shake my head in disbelief that I get paid for doing what I do, compared to jobs I've worked in the past! Here I am, on the clock, typing a message to a guy in Canada!

Life sure is funny, sometimes! :)

Evening Ylee: pretty normal here. Took the boat out with the "kids" (daughter is 40+ and SIL is 50+) for a "skakedown" and did we ever.
Had a good visit with a special fellow on one small island and were headed home to harbour when we hit a rock and could not change the prop. Looks like we spun the main keeper on the shaft so my call:
Limp back home.
She (the boat) brought us back at about 6 mph when she likes to run at 20. But she got us back in.
Tomorrow I pick her out and pull the outdrive. If I can get the prop off I will still need to get some welder to put a new skeg on it.
Tloml ain't happy tonight!

A rock? No charts for your area, or were you playing it by ear(like the sound of a prop hitting a rock! :)). I can see why the missus would be upset!

Good luck on the repair; I'm sure you'll have it back in the water soon!

Morning Ylee:
We had charts but not the one we needed. I have probably run over that rock many times before - just had more water under me. I had mentioned to the helmsman that there were rocks there and to stay well away but I was watching too and thought he was on a clear track. One of the goals of the trip was to show my daughter and SIL what I knew about the boat so they could use it comfortably. SIL had his own sail boat for years and both of us considered ourselves competent navigators.
Obviously we are both still somewhere on the "Learning Curve". The sailboat moored beside us had also dinged a rock in waters familiar to him at about the same time.
Ah well - time to hook up the trailer and see if the boat floated through the night.
