Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, May 23, 2013. A strong, large storm will continue making its way through the eastern third of the country on Thursday, producing more, active weather east of the Mississippi Valley. While the active weather is not likely to produce the severe thunderstorms that have greeted the country over the past several days, scattered thunderstorms will be likely, especially in the Southeast. In addition, moderate to occasionally heavy rain will move through the Northeast, followed by cool showers in the Ohio Valley and Upper Midwest.

Meanwhile, some moisture pushing into the Southern Plains could possibly instigate some severe thunderstorms in northern Texas and western Oklahoma. Due to this possibility, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather in the area for Thursday. This means residents in the area should prepare as if severe weather will develop, making any necessary preparations to protect life and property.

Also, a seasonably strong low pressure system will linger over the Pacific Northwest today, allowing wet weather to continue in the area. While rain will be the overwhelming precipitation due to this storm, a few snow showers will be possible in the higher elevations of the Cascades.

Additionally, rain will also spread as far east as central Montana.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Southwest will see similar temperatures.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued an

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for heavy rainfall and minor
flooding in...
north central Halifax County in central North Carolina...

* until 530 PM EDT

* at 419 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
thunderstorms with heavy rainfall over north central Halifax
County. Doppler radar estimated up to 2 inches of rain has fallen
over Roanoke Rapids during the past hour.

* Runoff from this heavy rainfall will cause minor flooding to
occur... especially along small streams... in low lying areas... and
areas of poor drainage. Some locations that will experience minor
flooding include... Halifax and Roanoke Rapids.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from this storm may cause minor flooding of small
creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses
as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency. They
will relay your report to the National Weather Service.
