Thursday...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am CST Thursday.

* Timing: rain should begin changing over to a brief period of
freezing rain and then sleet from northwest to southeast this
morning. A prolonged period of sleet is likely before changing
over to snow. This changeover will likely take place by noon
north of Route 13 in southern Illinois. However... the changeover
may take much longer across portions of southeast Missouri... far
southern Illinois... and southwest Indiana. Snow... moderate to
heavy at times... will continue for several hours this evening
before tapering off late tonight.

* Main impact: by early Thursday morning... snowfall totals are
expected to range from four to six inches generally north and
west of a line from Mount Carmel Illinois to Perryville and Van
Buren Missouri. South and east of that line... six to eight
inches is forecast. An eight to ten inch swath of snowfall is
possible generally twenty-five miles either side of a line from
Sikeston Missouri to Paducah and Madisonville Kentucky Kentucky.
One half to one inch of sleet may fall prior to the snow. It
should be noted that if freezing rain and sleet persist longer
than expected... snow amounts may not be as high.

* Other impacts: this quantity of snow and sleet accumulation will
produce treacherous conditions and cause significant travel
issues across the region. Isolated power outages will also be
possible. Stay tuned for updates and possible adjustments to
snowfall totals.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow...
sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
