Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory
Issued: 12:04 PST Feb. 13, 2016 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory now in effect until 6 PM PST Sunday...

* surf... surf of 10 to 15 feet today will subside to 8 to 12 feet
on Sunday.

* Impacts... large waves and strong rip currents will increase the
risk of ocean drowning. Sneaker waves can suddenly wash people
off of beaches and rock jetties. Minor beach erosion is
possible.

* Locations... surf will be highest on west and northwest facing
beaches.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf and rip currents will
make swimming and rock jetties dangerous.

Remember... if caught in a rip current... swim parallel to shore
until you are free of the powerful current. Always swim near a
lifeguard.

Special Statement
Issued: 22:23 PST Feb. 12, 2016 – National Weather Service

... More record heat with elevated fire danger Sunday through
Tuesday across southwest California...

An upper level high pressure system combined with moderate
offshore flow near the surface will bring another round of
record heat with elevated fire danger Sunday through Tuesday
across southwest California. The gusty Santa Ana winds will
mostly impact Ventura and Los Angeles counties... with the
strongest winds likely Sunday night through Monday. During
this time... wind gusts between 35 and 50 mph will be common
across wind prone areas of Ventura and Los Angeles counties... with
local gusts up to 60 mph possible in favored mountain locations.

Forecasted high temperatures are expected to climb into the mid
80s to lower 90s across many portions of the coast and valleys
in Ventura and Los Angeles counties Sunday through Tuesday. The
unusual February heat wave will make sunday's Los Angeles Marathon
even more challenging with high temperatures climbing into the
mid to upper 80s by afternoon.

The unsually hot February temperatures will bring an increased
risk of heat related illnesses for the elderly and anyone
performing strenuous outdoor activities.
