Special Statement
Statement as of 16:10 PDT le 27 juillet 2015

... Hot and humid conditions with possible thunderstorms Wednesday
through Sunday...

High pressure building aloft along with weak onshore flow will
bring an extended period of hot weather to southwest California.
The warm up will start on Tuesday and continue through Thursday
before leveling off Friday and Saturday. The hottest conditions
are expected Thursday and Friday... when much of the area away
from the coast will range from 95 to 103 degrees. Humidity will
also increase Wednesday through Friday... which will make the air
feel hotter than measured. The resultant heat index values will
approach excessive heat criteria... creating dangerous conditions
for those at risk of heat-related illness. This heat may impact
participants and spectators for the special olympic world
games... especially in valley venues.

The additional humidity caused by moist southeast flow will also
bring a possibility of showers and thunderstorms to the
region Wednesday through Sunday. The most favorable locations
include the mountains and interior valleys in the afternoon and
evening hours... but some coastal and valley areas could see
showers and thunderstorms during the night and early morning
hours. On Wednesday... the risk of flooding will be minimal but
dry lightning will be a concern. By Wednesday night and Thursday
however... deep moisture and very weak winds aloft will pose a
heightened risk of flash flooding. A Flash Flood Watch may be
needed for mountains and interior valleys during this time.
