For those who've asked: yeah, it's long exposure - around 2-seconds on a tripod with a cable release - but it's also one of my first real experiments with HDR Photography. I took a total of three shots - one shot "as metered", then one two-stops over and one two-stops under. I put them together with Photomatix ... and there's the result.
Actually the shot didn't need all that ... I could have tweaked a single, proper exposure to look almost the same - but there are some odd elements in this version that I like : The ghostly-red trees in the upper left are actually there, but very hard to see in any other exposure - and the weird green light coming from inside the building which contrasts so well with the orange light outside. (I could easily think "Halloween" rather than Christmas with this one!)
This scene shows a long cascade of water that runs down from a parking garage in downtown Hot Springs. For the holidays they decorate virtually everything downtown, so if that's what a parking garage looks like, you can imagine the rest of it! I'll be taking some more before the season's over, and I look forward to sharing a few on here. This is without a doubt my favorite "photo-group" on the Internet!
