Chionanthus virginicus or fringe tree puts on a show in mid-spring. Its confetti-like blossoms give it the name Grandpa Graybeard or Old Man's Beard. It is a tall shrub or small tree; the female bushes bear bluish berries in the fall. I have four of these that I grew from seed; they are now about 7-8 years old and about 4-5 feet tall.
