Today when I passed one of my favorite trees to photograph, one I had thought would outlive me, I was distressed to see it had been cut down...

This is one of four trees that get into lots of my photos. Two are on my property; the other two are along the road on the way to town. Now I have only three of my favorite trees left to shoot; sniff... Here is what the big oak tree looked like when I last photographed it in January:

Thank you, Eileen and Delana! It especially hurts when I can see no good reason for it. The tree was healthy and not endangering anybody or anything.

Such a shame! I suppose it's somewhat silly to hurt for a tree, but...some of us do.

Kathy..
perhaps the tree was cut for cash value.
as much as I love the forests for their beauty, my trees are also grown in addition to aesthetics, for profit.

Thanks for commenting, pokparent and Lou! These workmen said they were not even going to salvage the firewood, that it would be burned on the spot. They also took apart a tumbledown old barn next to the tree, and DID save the wood from that, it was so dry.
