I placed a large mayfly in front of this toad on my front porch last night, hoping to get a shot of it snapping up the insect, but the toad didn't seem all that interested, passed it up finally.

Thanks for taking a look and commenting, Donna! Toads creep out some people, but I like them, and like the fact that they don't run away from you, but let you handle them and don't bite or anything. Worst thing a toad will do is pee on you, if you scare it badly enough, but this one didn't do that, even though I did pick it up.

I thought the next shot in the series would be the toad eating...Great shot and they don't creep me out.

Thanks, Pam! I tried tempting it with several kinds of bugs, but no dice. Glad you also like toads.

Must be well-fed. It's always nice to find one in the garden. We see one once or twice every few years. Nice shot and series, Kathy. -kevin :)

Kevin, I've found the best way to attract toads to your yard is to have a source of water. I have a small minnow pond in the back yard that is used by my toads for breeding, and has greatly increased the number of toads I see all across the property.

Great info, Kathy, as usual, and I love the whole toad series!! Too bad he wasn't hungry =) Love the toads, myself. I got a few pix on vacation of a little tiny guy, I will have to try to find a good one to post.

Hi James, thanks for your comment! This toad had just snapped up a small beetle, and I suspect it was still scratching around in the toad's innards, so maybe it needed some Pepto-Bismol or something! Anyway, they are so quick when they do eat, the chances I could get a picture of it are about as good as catching a lightning bolt...
