When the fireweed blooms, summer comes to an end in the rainforests of SE Alaska. Rain comes in torrents and a heavy overcast overhangs our world. This photo was taken at noon on the road up to Brown Mountain.

Your fireweed has way outlasted ours! The fireweed in interior Alaska was bloomed out in July, and now is prolifically setting seed, fireweed fuzz everywhere!
Very pretty mountain road. Ketchikan is so beautiful.

Thanks so much for your comments on this photo. I thought all our fireweed was gone too. It is, down by the water where our only main road is, but yesterday, I headed into the backcountry and was so surprised to see it at higher elevations. I guess we're not totally done yet! About Judy
Judy My spouse and I have found a happy home in Southeast Alaska. We flourish in this temperate rainforest on one of the many, small, rocky islands in the Alexander Archipelago. We receive an average annual rainfall of 13 feet which keeps us green and provides for our needs, but you can imagine how much we celebrate our occasional sunny days. Since we are protected, by nearby islands, from the open ocean, our channel waters are often calm and glassy, although fast moving storms can instantly whip them into a dangerous frenzy. Our community is surrounded by plenty of wild backcountry, so for us, it's the best of both worlds. Come take a walk on the cool side! We hope you enjoy the visit.
