Those are electrical wires... Our electric grid is not really as organized as one would ideally want. Hence, we have main electric lines that carry the transformers and huge volts of electricity and from there, the people just attach additional wires to their establishments in the shortest possible way (usually a straight line)

The end result is series of wires criss-crossed over streets...
