Space Shuttles Enterprise(on left) and Discovery(on right) sit nose to nose. Enterprise will be transferred to The Intrepid Museum in NYC on Monday. Discovery will make her new home in the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Museum.

Fantastic pair---thanks for sharing with us! Any idea what that added part is on the back of each one?? And why? They never had those when they flew missions.

The aerodynamic tail cone to covers the space shuttle's main engines and provide a smooth airflow during the piggyback ride atop the modified Boeing 747 carrier jet. I got that info from "Spaceflight Now". It will be taken off when each shuttle goes on display. Ingrid
