This is not a high quality photo, but it is about a little bluejay with a broken wing. We are trying to capture him and get him to the "Avian Haven" in Freedom, Maine. He hops everywhere, and comes out of the woods where he lives/hides to feed with the doves. He is perching on a water bowl here having a drink. Luke is a beautiful boy, his plumage is brilliant, and if we can get him to the Aviary to have his wing set he will live a full life. But he cannot survive without flying in the woods for long, nor could he ever survive the winter. We will try again today to drop a towel over him and take him to this wonderful wild bird sanctuary where he will be restored to full health. My heart aches for him. We are in the midst of a heatwave in Maine, and it is very hard on him, but he is eating and I make sure he has water at all times.

Thank you for your comments! We are trying everyway we know to capture him and see him released as a healthy bird back into the wild...it's where he is happy and where he belongs.

Good luck with catching this broken-winged bird and getting him the help he needs, Pati. You obviously have a tender heart for helpless injured wild birds even as I do.

BTW, love your new portrait!

Thank you, Chris! I do love all animals and try to help them whenever I can. I'm glad you like the new portrait. I was in our yard with the woods just behind me. Had to take it very early in the day....it is scorching hot and humid for Maine!! :)

Hi Patty! Do you have an update for us about Luke? He is beautiful! You are a dear to try to save him. He has lived longer there than he would have here. The Coyotes here are everywhere this year. :(
have a lovely day! Off to work for me.

Hi Tensie, and all who inquired about Luke. We still have been unable to capture him. I haven't seen him today, so I'm a bit concerned. I've been in contact with the bird sanctuary and have followed instructions for capturing him, i.e., grub worms, a trap, watching, and I even tried to get to him to drop a towel over him......but he is one fast hopping bluejay. So I am not sure we will be able to catch him. I hope and pray we will. I found a female jay on his path in the woods, and the lady at the Avian Haven said it could be his mate or his mother, depending on how old he is. Apparently, they mate only with one other bird until one of them dies....then they will look for another mate. I think she was looking for Luke. If I see him again or anything changes, I'll keep you updated. Thanks for asking about him!
