I finally caught a Cicada bug before he started coming out of the shell and had enough time to set up a little crude lighting. Not very fancy but it gets the job done! The process of exiting the shell takes almost two and a half hours. The poor bug still has to sit on the tree and dry out before he eventually leaves the area. He's obviously completely helpless while he is anchored to the tree until he has dried out enough to fly.
