... High surf advisory remains in effect from 4 PM this afternoon
to 9 PM PST Tuesday...

* surf... surf of 4 to 8 feet today will build to 10 to 16 feet by
late Friday and Saturday. The surf will diminish Sunday and
Monday but will remain above high surf thresholds.

* Impacts... large and powerful surf with dangerous rip currents
and breaking waves on rocks and jetties. Damage to piers is
possible on Saturday... as well as coastal flooding of beach
parking lots and walkways. Ventura Harbor will have breaking
waves across the entrance.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf and rip currents will
make swimming and rock jetties dangerous.

Remember... swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current
remain calm. Don't fight the current. Swim in a direction
following the shoreline. When out of the current... swim back to
shore. If tired... float or tread water until out of the rip
current. If unable to escape... face the shore and call or wave
for help.

Small Craft Advisory, Gale Warning
Issued: 03:09 PST Jan. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Small Craft Advisory now in effect until 10 am PST Friday...
... Gale Warning in effect from 10 am to 9 PM PST Friday...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
Gale Warning... which is in effect from 10 am to 9 PM PST Friday.
The gale watch is no longer in effect.

* Winds... southwest to west winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts to 35 kt
are expected when winds are strongest.

* Seas... combined seas of 13 to 16 feet with periods around 15
seconds are expected when waves are largest.

See the coastal waters forecast (cwflox) for more details.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

A Small Craft Advisory means that hazardous sea conditions will
exist for small craft. Inexperienced mariners... especially those
operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these
conditions.
